Re: Would you buy a CS80 if re-released?
Voice boards - I expect the least amount of miniaturization from those. Even SMT will have people complaining about how it just won't sound the same, with thru-hole you can at least claim a degree of authenticity - plus, it's fixable for mere mortals ;) The first target would of course be the keyboa...

Re: Would you buy a CS80 if re-released?
Being that the CS80 weighs over 200lbs, no, I would not want one. Yes, but the original CS was built with a lot of parts that can be most likely miniaturized with no influence on the actual sound, and with smarter routing/multi-layered PCBs you could most likely shrink some parts as well. (most lik...

Re: David Sancious's comment on vintage gear (keyboard mag)
FYI David Sancious kicks the everliving snot out of 99,9% of the keyboard players. The Minimoog and Polymoog work on tracks like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELm3ZprM-iw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jW1Rt60XcE is astounding. Pretty much the entire discography is on Youtube (good thing his l...

Re: Hardware samplers in the age of the DAW
Just take a look to the Octatrack. There's a giant difference between an S2000 and an Octatrack; the latter has a pleasant interface. I just find suspicious the idea of replacing them with computer sampling tools.... why? Because if you're using samplers with SCSI harddisks and 72-pins SIMMs found ...

U-He DIVA
Amazing that there's no topic about this one yet. Anyway: http://www.u-he.com/cms/113-diva-goes-beta Public beta until Dec. 31st, sounds amazing, buy the bloody thing right now. Why spend 6 times as much on Arturia's stuff when you can have it all (and better , and without a dongle) for this price? ...

Re: Okay, now what?? NEED HELP
The problem - in 9 out of 10 times it's because you try to match up the labels. Don't! Mnemonic: MIDI goes OUT of the synth IN the computer. So, first do that; connect the synth's MIDI out to the Uno's MIDI in . Then open up a software synth in Sonar, and see if you can get that to play over the com...

Re: Synthesis types
I used to have the SY-35 - but the synthesis methods are still FM and sample-based (albeit not subtractive, it didn't have any filters IIRC). In case of the VS, the digital oscillators play back a very short sample - so it could be classified in the same group the DW8000 goes into. The vector joysti...

Re: Synthesis types
PWM is not a synthesis type. AWM are samples through a subtractive engine, VA is subtractive, vector merely means you have a joystick to seamlessly blend between 4 (sample-based) sound sources which then usually go into a (usually) subtractive engine. You can add granular and physical modeling (wave...

Re: calling good digital sounds "analog"
My thoughts are the word analog (or analogue for you across the pond) Let's just make everyone write it as "analog" for everyone unless you also spell color colour and tire as tyre and cookie as biscuit - usually people write "analogue" to make it look more interesting but then omit the rest of the...

3.5 hours by train to pick up a Virus C rack. It's a small country, though.

Weep. 1) have a really great tech who's exceptional in various disciplines from EE to programming embedded systems 2) spend boatloads of cash for a one-off - (that amount might've gotten you a Jupiter 8 even at today's inflated prices) 3) have it in the shop half of the time beca...
