Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 debugging help

I don't fully understand why the waveform though on the CPU [EXTAL] pin is a bit irregular, at least compared to the [X1-CLK] pin on the DUART.... My thought is a filter cap on a nearby rail is faulty so the digital section is not getting low ripple DC, or the PSU itself needs new caps. Check rippl...

Re: Best tool for podcast production

You can do the whole production in Cubase. It already has a limiter, you might want to add Youlean loudness meter or the Melda Productions one to automate setting of LUFS. Izotope RX is great, at the price it is a must have for any audio work. However, I would question a voice recording practice tha...

Excellent work! Delighted you fixed it. You're the one who did the work and found the solution. I was really only thinking out loud!

After reset, try it via MIDI. At least that will narrow down if it's a problem with the keyboard itself.

Re: Akai AX-60 Custom Firmware (Akai AX60)

Check the service manual. I think you'll find the S612 i/o socket is hardwired so the firmware makes no difference.

Re: Jupiter 8 Ebay auction

Hmmmm... "we are listing to see what the current market is" "Serious offers will be considered upon viewing and playing satisfaction." At this price, I'd want to see better pics than sitting on a cheap kitchen table, at least with it switched on. Was this an attempt to drive up the price some more? ...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 debugging help

Oh, that's a good tip. I gotta try this with mine it has somewhat similar symptoms. Does some stuff but no sound. I think it is worth checking the ripple on the supply too. I'm planning to test mine before and after a re-cap, on the assumption that after should be better.

Re: Restarting the Fizmo Project

You're welcome :) If you ever feel like you'd want to do a similar hack for the Casio CZ-5000/ SZ-1 sequencer as you did for the MC-202, I'd love to help with example data! That's totally selfish BTW, I have a ton of stuff backed up to WAV that I would like to organise better

Re: Jupiter 8 Ebay auction

Was that the Greek one? Looks like it may have been a fake auction. Shows up in search of completed listings but the auction itself is not accessible, and the main pic is not original. This Italian one from July 1st is half the cost and appears to be a genuine sale: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/114874148...

Re: Poly800 first eight keys muddled with button actions

Have you checked that the 8155 io chip is doing what it is supposed to? Off the data sheet? I assume you have the service manual? Because 8155 is programmable, you'll need the Poly 800 service manual to know exactly what it's supposed to be doing in this application.

Quite surprised to see it there.

I'm not. It gives a sound quite like some tape machines, say, the IBM dictaphone Holger Czukay used.

Re: Buying a hardware synth advice

They can all do the same range of sounds from weird to boring. The differences will be in the user interface and the sound quality, mainly of the filter but also the oscillators. It's really down to how good you are at synthesis, and trying out the real thing for yourself. Would you be able to get c...
