i was thinking about getting an mpc too. From what I've read and the research I did, the 2000xl seemed the best. I think the mpc 60 only has a couple megs of memory max, so that limits you a lot. And I also heard a lot of bad things about the 1000s pads. I see them go for around $500 on craigslist.
