DM Ultra bass
hey gang, quick question here, that I'm sure Micke or someone could answer in a second flat, what did Depeche Mode use for the basses on Ultra? I know that Useless has bass played by Doug wimbish (IIRC), and there may be bass guitar on one or two other tracks, but I'm wondering what they used to mak...

Re: MIDI Channel questions...can it be done?
Thanks guys, Disaster Area's answered my question, and for clarification, I meant having one bass pattern for the verse and one for the chorus, but each pattern is only monophonic.
I figured it'd work this way, but I wasn't all that sure, and just wanted clarification.
Thanks for your help:)

MIDI Channel questions...can it be done?
Hey gang, what's up? Ok, here's the deal: I've got a; - Korg Tr, which i more or less use just as a controller, and occasionally for a few extra layered pads or what have you. -Alesis Micron, which i use for the bulk of my synth parts -a DSI MoPho. Now, I used to just use the Micron for all my basse...

Re: Depeche Mode goes vintage
I enjoy Fletch's statement that SOTU will be more electronic than PTA! (spits out mouthful of breakfast cereal) MORE!!!! WTF!!! I don't really get how it could be more electronic than PTA, that album's just pure analog dirt!!! I absolutely loved it, and "Wrong" is F*cking awesome. I'm soooo...

Re: playing synths and not really knowing how to play piano.....
My advice would be to take a few lessons, and buy a book like The Idiot's Guide to Music Theory, or Music Theory for Dummies. I've got the Idiot's guide, and it's opened my eyes to how to write chord progressions, using inversions and extensions, and 've got to say, I have loads of fun just stuffing...

OriginalJambo wrote:Generally audio rate filter modulation adds a bit of grit/edge to the sound of the filter. Good feature to have as it can actually sound really cool, if ya ask me.
Awesome..Really helpful, cheers:)

Re: Audio Modulation...what?
It changes the filter cutoff frequency very quickly, using an osc instead of an LFO. It's like a really fast LFO on the filter. The manual explains it quite clearly, perhaps you should read up a bit more on subtractive synthesis. Try the SOS Synth Secrets. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthse...

Audio Modulation...what?
hey dudes, this has probably been discussed a million times, like everything else, but I've searched and can't find anything. I got a mopho the other day and I don't understand what the Audio Mod does? the manual says "Audio Mod: 0...127 — Controls the amount of audio from Oscillator 1 used to modul...

Re: becoming a Subtractive Synthesis Wizard
and one last thing, get Welsh's synthesizer cookbook, it's a real gem at showing you how to get some pretty stock patches that you can then use to create your own things, plus it has REALLY handy filter and tuning percentage tables, which are just beyond useful....

Re: becoming a Subtractive Synthesis Wizard
Try to imitate sounds you hear, not just acoustic sounds, try to imitate the lead sound of a song you like or a pad, hoover sound, noise, drone, etc, but try hard, in the inbetweens you'll learn more and more. And also, you'll probably would learn some songs too, and that's good :D Just another tho...

Re: becoming a Subtractive Synthesis Wizard
I started learning proper subtractive synthesis on a micron, and it's taken me about a year, but i've got to where i want to be, i can create almost any sort of sound i want or need. I started by just tweaking the presets and then saving the altered preset as a copy. Additionally, especially with th...

Re: 100 Ways to Make Vintage Sounds on a Computer
I have to whole-heartedly agree with the "distortion" answer. My brother borrowed my Alesis Micron, and compared it with his house-mate's Juno 106. His comment to me afterward was simply that both had the same "weight" to the sound, but you could just tell that the micron was making it's noise with ...

Re: Alesis ION Question
If you haven't already check out Jexus's demo of the ION, he shows the potential of its engine, he's like a synth God. http://youtube.com/watch?v=bXV4RsEy8b8 F#@kin' 'ell John!!!! his demos are awesome!! I've got a micron, and after a year of ownership, I'm (finally) becoming really competent with ...
