Re: Sample storage - SCSI stuff and so forth
BTW, we have discovered that the CF-CARD drive will allow you to use up to 8GB of storage on a CF card for the Akai MPC2000 Classic and MPC2000XL. 8GB on a CF card for the MPC2000 Classic and MPC2000XL! :D No more 1GB limits. Honestly, this is an added feature we weren't expecting but are very happy...

Re: Sample storage - SCSI stuff and so forth
Thats sucks about SCSI for Samplers going out of business. I was able to find a SCSI card reader for my ASR-10 from them (a godsend!). Dude was really helpful also. bummer for sure. went to their site the other day to find it very much abbr. We are back in business since March with a pretty much fu...

I'd be careful about which hard drive I tried to mount internally. Remember that back in the day of the S1000, very small HDs were the norm, in range of 540MB or less. Those drives pull less power than newer SCSI drives and I'm guessing the S1000 doesn't have a huge power supply. If you try and inst...

4GB is addressable with 32 bits. 36GB requires 36 bits. Since computers deal in 8-bit chunks, needing 4 extra bits for addressing is expensive. I understand all that but it's not much of an excuse. The Yamaha Motif did it, plus provided a SCSI interface as standard equipment plus had a cheaper reta...

We hear that question a lot - "why does my sampler only see 510MB of a 9GB hard drive" or something to that effect. It seems to me like for most sampler manufacturers, SCSI implementation was the last thing they did and they took the easiest path possible. Meaning the simplest implementation of basi...

The MCDISK card reader drive we sell allows any sampler that can boot from a SCSI device to boot directly from CF card. This includes the Akai MPC2000, all the Akai S series, the Ensoniq EPS, EPS 16+ and ASR-10, the EMU Emax SE/HD and EMU EIII/xp. Get rid of the boot floppy or noisy zip drives forev...

In my last performing band(1990 - 1997), I used an Ensoniq EPS and a VFX-SD, along with a rack-mounted Kurz PX1000 and an Alesis D-4 drum module. We were a sequenced 3-piece band and the EPS was the sequencer, along with being my primary controller. It even ran our midi-controlled lights! What an aw...

Yes, the CD3000i is a sample playback-only machine with a built-in CDROM drive (kinda cool). It will only load Akai S1000/S3000 format CDs, not wav files on user-burned CDs. But it isn't very hard to create S1000 format CDs yourself if you use Translator (I think even the free version will allow you...

The ESI-32 is by default set to SCSI ID 5, as you stated, but it can be changed (Master/Global, Disk Utilities, 0). However, as long as you have the CDROM drive and the ESI-32 on different ID numbers (and it sounds like you do), it really doesn't matter which numbers they are on. Do you have an inte...

Andy, thank you for that great review. I'm glad to hear the PCD-47B is working out well for you. We still have 15 PCD-47B units, 1 PCD-10 and 9 PCD-25B units in stock, so if you need one (or a hard drive, CDROM drive or rack/tabletop combo unit), please have a look at our site. Quality warranted pro...
