Re: Sine waves
Not sure that you'd need a dedicated oscillator just to produce a sine wave. Any oscillator should be capable of producing a sine wave. It's likely that calibrating one for it falls into the "more effort than its worth" category, at least as far as traditional analog/subtractive synthesis goes. Plen...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
There was a photo circulating, though I can't recall the source, that looked like the MS-20 mini with an SQ-10. http://i60.tinypic.com/2ueo2n7.jpg The Odyssey reissue makes sense as it can be done on a single SMT board, with available parts. The Odyssey did not have any special or rare chips that c...

Re: Moog Sub 37
Sooooo who's actually excited for this? I think it'll be awesome to have more tribute editions. Those were always the nicest little phattys. I think the sequencer looks sick too. I'm very hyped up for the Sub 37. It has pretty much everything I could ever ask for from a two oscillator synth, short ...

Re: Moog Sub 37
Hey Marc, I got a Moogy question that's related to Sub37. I heard recently that Minitaur, Sub Phatty and Taurus II have digital LFOs and EGs, not analog like Slim Phatty and Voyager. I was kind of surprised...know if it is true? I'll try and answer this, although I'm not an expert by any means. The...

Re: New Moog
Agreed, a Moog analog poly would not only be awesome, but expensive. The best route that could go if they decide to make one is to make it like an OB-X where you can buy as many voice boards as you could afford or add as you can afford. That way you'd only have a a $2K or so upfront cost for a 1 or...

Re: Moog new "Little Secret"
Wow. Glad I decided to stay up a bit late screwing around on the internet tonight. Also starting to feel really good about the iPad I bought a year ago just because I knew something "pretty cool" would come out sooner or later. Never would have anticipated this. This is the type of thing that 20 yea...

Re: Smoking and gear.
Smoke ruins practically everything given time. Although the odd exposure to it through a gig here and there won't really have much effect. If you play a synth in a smoky bar/pub occasionally, you probably won't have to worry about discoloration and internal problems. If you do four hour sets 5 night...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!
The Kronos comes in 61, 76, and 88 key flavors. The 61 key is $3000, with the 88 key topping out at $3800. Overall, this Jupiter 80 looks like a pretty good instrument in its own right. The rumored $3500-$4000 price tag seems a bit steep for something that's more than a VA style synth, but not quite...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!
A great man once said something along the lines of, and I paraphrase: "Synthesizers shouldn't be made to recreate or replace old sounds, they should be used to create new sounds." What was his name? It's bugging me that I can't remember. Oh! Right! It was Dr. Robert Moog. *Hugs Voyager, gives Little...

Re: The Moog Polyphonic Theremin.
That might have been it. Sounds familiar. They also did an Analog Time Compressor pedal that is a reverse delay; you hear the note before you play it.

Re: The Moog Polyphonic Theremin.
I love Moog.
The Voyager XL is real.
I forget what last years was. I know they announced the Moog Guitar on April 1st, which is also a real product.

Re: Building An Original Mono Synth
I have no experience doing anything like this, but I've picked up a bit of information here and there. Make Magazine has a lot of information on DIY project related things. It's also available as a print / newstand magazine. http://makezine.com/ PAiA has been selling synth kits forever. Although thi...

Re: Noisy Buttons on Machinedrums (and presumably MNM's)
Both my MD and Mono are the same way, so unless someone else says otherwise, I guess It's just the way they're designed. I don't think anything can really be done about it. It took me a while to get used to, but I can see why they are that way. They're springy and loose so they can be suited for liv...

Re: Elektron Octatrack!
I think they might be getting them out a little slower than what is normal for them. I had a pre-order paid for back in mid December (first day they took orders) and it still took a few days once shipping actually started on Jan. 17th. As for the question about Timestretching, the timestretch is lin...
