Re: Moog Taurus I vs Moog Taurus II
I had the Taurus II, owned it for a few years, gigged with it. Tried the Taurus III and backed out from buying it. Currently own a Taurus I, already owned for several years, couldn't be happier. The Taurus I destroys the Taurus II soundwise. The II is more versatile than the I because it's a full Ro...

No offense, but this is kind of a silly comparison. The two synths are about as common as a Ferrari and a Bentley. Both high priced sought after cars but not at all similar. Wait! They both have 8 voice polyphony! :) That's right, they're both 8-voice polysynths, and they're both the top-of-the-lin...

Roland Jupiter-8 / Yamaha CS-80: comparison
Possibly the two most powerful analog polysynths ever made... One has a terrific ringmod and ribbon controller; the other has a superb arpeggiator. One was a 200 lb delicate (and by most accounts unreliable) monster; the other was a 60 lb more reliable warrior. What are their sonic differences? Has ...

Roland RS-202 details
From the very informative Genesis' Wind And Wuthering thread emerged Tony Banks' usage of the Roland RS-202. As mentioned in the thread's comments, this stringer was used on such tunes like "Many Too Many", "Down And Out", and "All In A Mouse's Night". The above shows a strangely beautiful capabilit...

Strange thing about the Gate Out - the 202 itself is fully polyphonic, but the Gate Out is a monophonic gate out that can be connected to the trig in of a synth (mono obviously). Not sure how useful I would find that. AFAIK it's upper note priority so presumably, you could play chords on the 202 an...

Jupiter-8 and ARP Quadra
Did you notice that they look rather similar...?
Was Roland getting inspired on the Quadra's looks when they designed the JP-8?

Afaik, neither the mellotron nor the RS-202 was used on "Duke". The Yamaha CS-80 was apparently used a lot on this album so it might be the instrument used for the string sounds in question. On the other hand Tony Banks was also using a Roland VP-330 vocoder/strings and Polymoog on the album so who...

Thanks for your info on the RS-202 on this thread! I would have never believed that the RS-202 is such a versatile machine. Indeed, I was also wondering the structure of the strings from Wind And Wuthering and And Then There Were Three. I could have never thought that the organ on All In A Mouse's N...
