Re: A guitarists perspective on old vs new synths :)
Why is there a debate at all :)?! There really isn't much of a debate. Most agree that the old synths sound better. True, although this sentiment is shared by many who have never actually used a VCO based synth in their lives(which makes their assessment even more trivial). But, I would argue that ...

Re: Summer NAMM next week...
I would seriously like to see a virtual JV/XV(or even a JD) from Roland that includes the entire SR-JV-80 ROM set, with an updated effects section(as well as a 'vintage' algorithm option). They could sell that for $299 and it would still go like hot-cakes. The allure of this is that these all have a...

Re: Was the Roland D50 the first VA Modelling Synth?
...It all comes down to how strict you are with the terms. With genuine respect for the points you make and to the other informative posts, I don't agree. There is absolutely no ambiguity here. The word 'Virtual' in Virtual Analogue literally means that the analogue circuitry is actually modelled i...

Re: Was the Roland D50 the first VA Modelling Synth?
Not feasible? o_O no no, you exaggerate heavily. A shitpile of work not many people are willing to dedicate themselves to for marginal difference? Yes. This is what component modelling is and it gets better all the time, although yes.. many ppl abuse the term generically. There are products out the...

Re: Was the Roland D50 the first VA Modelling Synth?
Regarding the poster just above this one "nvbrkr" - my point on other types of computers is this - the character and sound of, for example, the Korg Legacy PolySix (which sounds very like the original by the way) is based on the actual model Korg have come up with to emulate the Polysix analogue el...

Re: Roland SH01
I got a chance to play this synth for an hour last Saturday. IMHO it's a re-configured, repackaged SH201 (it doesn't come close to sounding like an SH32). Care to elaborate on some of the characteristic differences you observed in your rather brief audition(esp with respect to oscillators, filter, ...

Re: Roland SH01
I stand by my comment on the stupidity of discussing the imagined merits of products which aren't even in production yet though. Roland themselves say "specifications subject to change" cause they're that early on in the process of making this, so how is it that people already have opinions that ar...

Re: Roland SH01
most of the presets are rather thin implementations of Jupiter and Juno type sounds. The "Juno strings" type preset (88 iirc) sounds really good, but uses 3 oscillators to product the sound of a 1 osc Juno Which is more or less what we should expect, given that what we are really trying to emulate ...

Re: Roland SH01
Were is this " the waveforms are sampled loops " talk coming from ? From its obvious architectural similarities to the SH-32. As far as I know and that's info according to rolands page : http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=1074# Is that the synth engine is all d...

Dead battery, or bad eprom symptoms?
Hi, can anyone relate the symptoms of what I should be looking for to make a differential diagnosis? I am doing this remotely, so I don't have much info to offer just yet, but would appreciate if someone with experience could give me some pointers on what to look for in distinguishing between the tw...

Re: VA Softsynth vst's or Virus TI?
The Ks series has a multimode filter (lpf/bpf/hpf) whereas V-Station only has a lpf, the lfo's are also different (Ks series has a one shot mode for it's lfo's). The V-station PoCo also has a multimode filter. As far as I can tell V-Station is actually modeled the A/K-Station, not the Ks series. I ...
