Re: Things I should know before buying a DX7 mk1
Make sure all the membrane buttons work and the plastic membrane is not cracked or ripped. Never had a Mk-I, and I don't give much creedance to those who insist that the Mk-1 has THAT sound. If you're a collector of vintage then ok. Otherwise find a Mk-II-d, or fd. Velocity and MIDI problems are fi...

I don't gig at all, so that wouldn't be a problem!Powelly wrote:I picked one up the other day for $50 AUS.
I wish I could tell you more, but mine has a power cable problem.
I can confirm it does weigh a ton, more than my M1, which is a feat.

Things I should know before buying a DX7 mk1
Hi, I've been digging a lot into FM synthesis lately, and I'm thinking about buying a Yamaha DX-7 mk1. What should I know before buying this synth? Pros, Cons, Common Troubles, Failures, reliability, better year of production, interesting links etc. Things I already know: - It weights a ton (actuall...

Re: Heartbeat like drums
You're absolutely right. I've just managed to get the snare sound following your advices: - find a really high pitched 909 snare sample - pitch it down one octave - duplicate the sample and reverse it - add lo pass filter, compression and reverb to individual samples - layer the two samples, leaving...

Re: Heartbeat like drums
Do you mean like processing over and over the sample through the filter at different cutoff and res rates? I haven't tried that yet.tallowwaters wrote:Heartbeat like drums = various stages of closed lo pass filter.

Re: Synths used on...?
The Poly Evolver is the only synth used by Cut Copy, all their synth sounds come from the PEK. Listen to "Feel the Love", "Out there on Ice", "Lights and Music" or "Hearts on Fire".thefonz003 wrote:Also, DSE Poly Evolver and Alesis Andromeda A6.

Re: Synths used on...?
The synth description pages give lists of artists who have used particular synths, but not generally albums or tracks, or what the synths were used for (e.g., bass, strings, brass, leads, etc.). Does anyone have info on albums, tracks, parts, and/or patches of the following synths?: Korg: Wavestati...

Heartbeat like drums
Hi, I've been listening a lot to Bjork's Homogenic lately, and I've been wondering how to achieve the hearbeat like drums as in the song "Unravel". I guess they are lofi 808/909 samples, but I can't fully understand the effects on it, definitely a lot of reverb and compression, but how to get that "...

Yamaha DX-200 Question
Hi, I've been lusting about one of these things, but for what I've read on the net, the synth section (which is supposed to be a DX7 clone), it's only editable from the sh***y software that only runs on Mac OS9 (I'm on Mac OSX 10.5). Do you know if it's possible to load DX7 patches via Sysex? Or edi...

Re: Random thoughts about synths
Fast forward 20 years and the supply is way down and demand is way up. The good news is if you just want analog, there's plenty new analogs around for cheap. $399 for a Mopho (with keys for $800), $600 for a Dark Energy, $800 for a Kraftzwerg, Silm Phatty for $800, etc. and even cheaper used. No re...

Re: Random thoughts about synths
I don't know if I'm the worst buyer ever (I swear I do a lot of research!) or I just have bad luck, but every synth I buy always fails. A juno 106, Juno 60, 2 Ensoniq ESQ-1, a Roland JX-3p, and my last buy: a mint Alesis Ion. I'm unloading the last one tomorrow on the mexican version of eBay due to ...

Random thoughts about synths
Hi, I just wanna share some recent thoughts about synths. Please feel yourself free of calling me crazy if you like. Are vintage analog (or digital by the matter) synths really worth it? Maybe things were different if i was 50 years old and had a Minimoog Model D, Jupiter 8, ARP 2600 in my room sinc...

Re: Blofeld Keyboard vs Nord Lead 2x
I really doubt I could get one at a good price, but I started this thread thinking more about the Blofeld, and seems like that's the one to get!

Re: Blofeld Keyboard vs Nord Lead 2x
I've must have seen that videos at least 30 times each!!! But Mr.Jexus himself says that Blofeld it's not very good at emulating VA, or pushing sounds to the limits (I suppose higher FM rates) that's why I'm asking for 2nd opinions. Thanks for your comments!
