Re: korg legacy collection
Is there any demo of legacy that I could download? I've seen some links but they don't work.

Re: Just picked up an Ensoniq ESQ-1...
Congrats, its an amazing synth. The user interface is among the best in the digital world. The only drawback is the lack of aftertouch. Check out mik300's Vangelis covers and related stuff on Youtube.

Re: What's your "must have" synth?
You should definately look into the SY77/99. These synths gave me an idea that Yamaha should implement the FM engine from FS1r in their next generation Motif, however, not in the form of a plugin card with crippled editing. Instead they should utilise the big touchscreen that will surely be there t...

Re: What's your "must have" synth?
I think, Yamaha DX7 is a must have synth for me. I wish there were some solid modern keyboard FM options because I'm not that much into having a 30 years old museum synth, although it is great for what it is. I need it for my chromatic percussion sounds. I can't afford a £10000 marimba and the DX7 d...

Re: Look what I've found in my DX7...
Do you mean DX7 is an FM synth while TX81z is FM or PM depending on what waveforms you're using?

Re: A New Instrument
It seems more like a mixing/phrase triggering tool than a musical instrument. Unlike with a theremin, here the musician's gestures do not directly correspond to the played music. By watching it I get the same impression as if she was pushing the sliders on a mixing console. I'm not criticising the i...

Look what I've found in my DX7...
An analogue low pass filter after the DAC. Here is the excertpt from the service manual: 12. DAC A BA9221 DAC is used. The DAC converts the digital waveform data from the OPS to an actual analog waveform. The amplitude scale factor of the analog waveform is controlled via SF0 ~ SF3. This signal is t...

Re: the time of your synth sessions
I have very little time to play the synths and I don't stay up late in the night. The nature of my work allows me to take very short breaks at home so I often use that time to play for 5-15 minutes. On weekends I often sit at the synth for 3-4 hours at a time. It feels like a cryosleep, three hours ...

There is also a prestige factor - especially for certain boutique acid-house labels that won't release tracks made without the real deal. I wonder how they make sure the real deal was used. Do you need to send the purchase receipts for each piece of gear used or attach videos how you made the songs...

Re: Opinion on New Synth Purchase
I can give you my subjective opinion. From the syths you listed, DSI Evolver desktop is the most finished product. MFB synths somehow don't appeal to me and I think they seem a bit "toyish" next to the more expensive machines. Mopho is out of the question, it doesn't sound right to me. It's somethin...

Re: Reigniting synth passion?
That happened to me. Personally, in a different way, the more I got into synths and more so, softsynths, the less interested I became. I was paying more attention to modern production and trying to "keep up with the times" so to speak that I had forgotten why I got into synths in the first place. M...

Re: Reigniting synth passion?
MAKE a new genre. And change the rutines. I, for example, prefer to sound like :dontknow: or  which is usually the result I get, than follow someone's prescriptions how to make music. For example, I don't sync or quantise anything. I like to explore how out-of-sync sounds change the feeling ...

Re: I dropped a pick in my synth
Given that laptops classify as synths these days, once I had mushroom soup coming out from beneath the touch pad. The next day after dinner.
