Michael Jackson's "Who is it"
Okay first I hope I posted in the right section, LOL! Anyways...... I'd like to try and create an instrumental of this great song (later this summer) - using very, very close "emulations" of the sounds used in this song. I am picky with sounds, they need to sound exact if not as close as possible - ...

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
Hey guys! Yes, I am back and would like to extend my deepest apologies for "abandoning" y'all, lol. I started college back in Jan, got VERY busy, then no internet for a while - it's been crazy busy but I have decided to make an effort and get back into the loop of this frustrating situation....yup, ...

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
HAHA Rhino I AM getting impatient but it all comes down to one thing....it HAS to be my laptop! It makes perfect sense. If I was able to get a "few patches" to the synth before - and they are transmitted to the synth via the cable, then clearly it cannot be the Yam cable (although it's new, sometime...

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
OK I think there is something wrong with the synth or my computer, lol. Now another issue.....will this ever end? I am probably driving you crazy and I am SO sorry.... I am working on a laptop at the moment although I do have a desktop as well. I tried the program you listed in a previous post but i...

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
I GOT IT!! I went with gcoudert's advice - I had to "switch" the In/Out and put it as Input in Output and Output in Input - opposite. The Input in Input and Output in Output did not work. Now that I saved the sounds as one .sysex file I'm not worried, now another issue, I tried to load some other .s...

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
I e-mailed the person from the librarian site and he told me: The main reason that the "Recieve data from D-50" menu item (and corresponding toolbar button) is greyed out is if the MIDI Input port isn't configured correctly. Click on the Tools->Configure MIDI Ports and make sure that an appropriate ...

Re: synth used in BILLIE JEAN for bassline.
Great thread For those who'd like to check the backing of Billie Jean more in isolation, I uploaded this: http://www.harlemnightsmusic.com/billiejean.mp3 (This mix is from the rear channels of the History DVD surround remix) Does anyone still have this "isolation" mix? Would love to have a listen. :)

Re: Roland D-50 help.....
Okay FINALLY getting somewhere here *does happy dance* and figured out how to receive/send data to synth however.....when I go to click on "Receive Data from D-50" option off the main "Tools" menu it is grayed out, meaning I cannot click on it. The little "keyboard" icon with the "pointing down" arr...

Re: Could Someone Help Me Out With A Michael Jackson Questio
What sounds from the D-50 do you think were used on Leave me alone? I love that intro "bass/organ" like sound before the guitars and percussion come in.

Re: Billy Jean
Yeah that was Bill Wolfer, one of several keyboardists/programmers contributing to the "Thriller" album. Here's the old VSE thread in which Wolfer posted about his contributions: http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33273 And here's a synth-breakdown for the song "Thriller" which s...

Re: Michael Jackson's Thriller with Electribes and Juno 106
I came across this looking up some topics about stuff related to Jackson. I was listening to this a while back on Youtube yet had no idea you were a member here, lol. Wanted to say AWESOME job! A lot of the sounds are indeed "spot on" - Michael would be proud!

Re: What got you into synths?
Posting out of guilt, yes, Michael Jackson was my influence in getting me interested in synths. I love his music and artistry, and I appreciate it greatly that his music is respected here and his personal life is left untouched. Other forums I've been to are always disrespecting him and his music. I...

Just paid $40 for a Yamaha UX16 Audio cable adapter. Then I was told there were cheaper ones but, not turning back now, lol.

Re: What was the most expensive Synth you ever bought?
New to this but got myself a Roland D-50 a few weeks ago for $400 off Craigslist. WAS $450 but I negotiated to $400, lol. Works beautifully, too. Later this year my aim is to get a Yamaha Motif X8...over $2,000 but keeping an eye open for one under $2,000, new...or used as long as it was lightly use...
