Hey Dan,
Did you happen to write down the pinout for the 24-pin Centronics anywhere? I have a Synclavier II that's missing a floppy, and have a HXC2001 emulator that I'd love to experiment with!
Cheers,
Max a.k.a. Synthead

Oberheim Computer Interface specifications
Hey all, I'm looking to build an open source MIDI/Oberheim Computer Interface converter based off Arduino. I found this , which is enough to get me started, but is there any other information on this port that I could research? The goal is to make integrating these Oberheims as accessible as possibl...

Re: HELP! UPS Smashed My MATRIX 6
Woooow, this turned out way better than I ever imagined it could! Way to turn around a bad situation! I was going to say that they aren't making these anymore, shame, etc., and I still feel bad that these are getting more and more rare, but it looks like your Matrix found a great home :) I bet you c...

Re: ESQ-1 Failure
If you send too many MIDI events to the ESQ-1, like in a feedback loop, it will crash and say "system error xx". I've done this a few times on accident and it's a non-issue. I was even convinced that my ESQ-1 was broken one night until I saw that my MIDI patch bay was lit up

Re: Unstable ESQ-1 controls
If contact cleaner didn't do it, some new pots might be in order. Inside of pots, either slide or rotary, there's a metal spring that's constantly scraping a semi-conductive material to vary resistance. They wear out. If you're not sure if this is it, completely disconnect the pots and see if the pa...

Re: Juno 106 crackly chorus
If your sound is very full and you have the VCA up, the chorus has a tendency to distort. If it's really nasty, you can tune it according to the service manual, but it requires a tone generator and an oscilloscope to do it right. The procedure is on page 12 on this service manual (but visible as pag...

Re: Anyone need a MIDI to SYNC24 interface?
On second thought, it's not really worth the time. It'll take about one or two hours to make one, and if I make an extra 10 or 20 bucks out of the deal, I just worked for about 15 dollars an hour. I was excited about my project when I started it, but, you know. What said, if any of you wanted to tra...

Re: Anyone need a MIDI to SYNC24 interface?
Yeah, it's best to just get boards printed, or even better, already made. I just wanna kill some time and make a couple bucks while I'm at it. I probably won't sell more than 10 or so, I think.

Re: Anyone need a MIDI to SYNC24 interface?
I'm guessing that if you feed it anything other than pure clock, it sh*ts the bed. To do it properly you'd need to extract clock pulses, start, stop and continue from your MIDI - which would either require more circuitry, or a processor of some kind. I can't make out what chips you've got in there....

Re: New Synth Build Quality
In short: they don't make them like they used to. Like aforementioned, they're loaded in features to compete with DAWs, but there are too many people unwilling to drop money on hardware these days = poor quality to save manufacturing costs.

Re: First synth - damn low budget
I bought a Casio CZ-5000 for $100 on craigslist and an Ensoniq ESQ-1 for $140 at a pawn shop, although the Casio is a unique synth without filters, and the ESQ-1 is a digital synth with analog Curtis filters. A little more, My Juno-106 was $250 with some bad slide pots, cost about $40 for replacemen...

Re: Anyone need a MIDI to SYNC24 interface?
Well, I built one :) This box covers exactly what I needed, just a simple, passive, and inline MIDI to sync24 generator, although it wouldn't be difficult to build a sync24 to MIDI box either, or one that does both. This should also theoretically power multiple sync24 or MIDI devices with a slight r...
