Re: Jexus' review of the Alesis Andromeda is up
I like Jexus's demos and his playing. He's just one opinion, and I think he acknowledges that. We all want to have our expectation biases met. It's human nature. For instance, Jexus kind of disses the Juno 106, while he celebrates the Juno 60. But I think that his 106 demos sound better than his 60 ...

Re: Prophet 5 versus Prophet 600
Hey GliGli, didn't know you were on this forum. Thanks so much for the P600 firmware upgrade! Fantastic work! I have a few comments for you about things I noticed while using it. Can I send you a personal message or email?

Re: Prophet 5 versus Prophet 600
Take a look at this: https://github.com/gligli/p600fw It's a CPU (a $30 Teensy++ 2.0 board) and (open-source) firmware upgrade. I did the simple soldering mods to the board, loaded the firmware and installed it on my P600 a couple days ago. Some (but not all) of the improvements: 1) Better resolutio...

Re: triple synth stands
I own a Standtastic 3-tier. It's a solid stand, though expensive, at $200+US, and heavy. Its footprint is quite deep, however, given its pyramidal design, and thus not good for a small room or stage. There are also some wing nuts that have to be adjusted on setup/breakdown, and thus easy to unscrew ...

Re: "Lucky Star" Bass-line
A friend somehow got hold of the 16-track master and passed it on to me. The bass line is an electric bass doubled with what is called on the track listing "ARP bass." All the other synth parts (at least as labeled) are Prophet 5.

Re: Prohpet 600 and Juno 106 question
I have both and think they are different enough to be quite complementary. Side by side, the 600 is much fatter to my ears, but it lacks the snappy envelopes of the 106. The 106 also has noise. The 600 makes great pads and FX (especially with Poly-Mod), the Juno great percussive and bass sounds. The...

Reason Rack Extensions
Hello, esteemed synth lovers.
I'm wondering what you think about Reason's pretty new walled garden, specifically the synthesizers:
Korg Polysix
Rob Papen Predator
Abl2 (TB-303 emulation)
Synapse Audio Antidote
Blamsoft Viking VK-1 (Moog Voyager emulation)

Re: Reliability of synthesizers
I'll second on the Roland Juno-106. I've owned two. Did the acetone bath on one and sold it. Warned the buyer about caveat emptor and all that. The other had already had the bath when I acquired it, but those 80017As are still going bad. I love it so much that I've ordered four more clone chips from...

Does the Polymoog Vox Humana patch count? In any case, one of the greatest synth sounds ever.

Re: Which Korg?
I have a Monotron (original version), was attracted by its supposed MS10/20 filter. Found that it is very noisy. Two of them in sequence would seem to be very noisy indeed.

Re: Roland r5: should I keep it?
I still own an R-5 that I bought in 1992 off the classified ads. I used it for years. A few people thought that my drums tracks with it were real drums. I got it out recently to jam with, and it didn't impress me too much by comparison with the sounds available on a computer now. It was a pain to pr...
