Re: MKS70 split patch problems
Does it only play one tone across half the keyboard and then nothing(tone A and B on different midi channels) or just play one tone/both tones all the way across the keyboard???....sometimes sysex patches that were for the JX10 do not set the split point properly when loaded into an MKS 70, going in...

Re: Roland MKS 70 - don't turn on.
Most likley is the rectifier on the power supply, its under the voice boards on the left, these are known to fail and a good tech will make a lasting repair with some high power diodes..get them to check the big smoothing caps whilst the machine is open..failing that one of the smaller voltage regul...

Re: Roland MKS-50 Sound Issue
Someone jump in here because its a long time scince I`ve played with an MKS50..did it not have a midi mode that each voice responded to a guitar sting...mono mode multichannel or something, mode 4 OMNI OFF MONO? so each voice was on a different midi channel ? perhaps the MKS needs a reset or setting...

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?
Still got an Alpha Juno 1 and TR505 bought with my first proper paycheck , after a tidy up of odd boxes of spare bits n bobs found a cheetah midi interface that I got around the same time ( No sinclair spectrum to go with it though)

Re: Synth Deflation?
The "Good Stuff" will stay high priced no matter what is on the market, might see a few lower end half rack tone modules suddenly appear for that last bit of cash or maybe a few third hand SH201`s... Most likely outcome will be a few more "spares or repair" synths where the current owner can`t fix i...

Re: Roland MT32 Love
Must have had this track in the back of my mind when in the local cash converters and picked one up on impulse ( sold my first MT32 years ago), This one however had FOUR outputs..a quick Google brought up a company called Real World Interfaces who made mods for the MT32 and an interesting PDF on the...

Re: Polishing keys
RetroBrite worked wonders on an old TR626 and an MC500 I had knocking about, but when trying it out with some spare synth keys (just to see what would happen)....nothing!! There seems to be a clear coating on the outside of the plastic that stops RetroBrite working..... YMMV

Re: Roland D5 cosmetic and electronic repairs PLEASE READ
The foil around the main board should be there but will not stop mains electric hum, It is there to stop digital noise affecting audio/keep the self generated RFI within the synths casing to pass FCC regs (in the US) Rhino is correct in checking the PSU first for the source of your hum as 90% of syn...

Re: Roland MC-500 Seq. woes and general confusion
If you have the MC500 mk1 then a standard PC floppy drive won`t work and the only place Ive seen advertising drives has been Route 66. Maybe see if synthparts.com could help (an ensoniq mirage drive will work in an MC too) I have a decent service manual in PDF for both Mk1 and Mk2, If you want a cop...

Re: Korg DW8000 opinions please
Thanks for the replies guys, The DW needs the edit/volume sliders cleaning out , a couple of black keys need new springs and the tact switches replacing (got loads of those here already). I really want to try something different sounding as the kit I`ve picked up ex-rental/fleabay for fixing up has ...

Korg DW8000 opinions please
There is a Korg DW-8000 as a fixer upper near me, that needs some TLC and cannot believe the low prices that a mint condition DW goes for, Any Love for this synth out there?

Re: Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?
Nothing wrong with your JX Hardware or that sysex string (assuming that C2 near the end was a controller/slider variable) Check the JX Manual and turn off active sensing as this can confuse the h**l out of some USB cable type interfaces, the jx8/jx10 and D50 can be infuriating with the "to the lette...

Re: Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?
Could you post an example of one of your sysex strings and which parameter it is for eg F0H 41H 36H 00H 21H 10H 01H 22H vvH F7H Filter cutoff Just so we can rule out the strings being wrong, It is very unlikley that there is a hardware fault in the synth which would ONLY stop sysex working whilst le...

Re: Roland D50 Servicing
Are all the buttons that dont work in a group together? If so check CN12 and CN13 on the main board where you replaced the battery ( unplug and replug a couple of times) If not the little tact switches will need replacing... It sounds as if someone has switched local off and stored it as the default...
