Re: ARP Solus
Congrats on the ARP Solus. I've owned mine 10 years now and I still absolutely love it. I had mine serviced when I bought it, but it went out of tune on the long journey home from the service shop. Thankfully, it can be tuned quite easily using a small screwdriver through holes in the front panel. T...

Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?
Frankly, I don't like the Rhodes piano sound. Perhaps because it was so overdone on the DX7 during the '80s. But for some odd reason, I've always wanted to own a Rhodes Fifty-Four. They're so compact and cool-looking! Not to mention fairly rare. I know I'd hardly ever play the damn thing, but I'I w...

Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?
I have a Hammond SK-1 organ which is compact, light and sounds pretty awesome to me. It has some piano and other sounds too. I play the electric grand and Rhodes sounds quite a lot. The piano and mellow wurly sounds are good too. The SK-1 Rhodes is quite close in tone to my real Rhodes which is a la...

Re: Help me to ID that synth(Genesis)
Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QJHSM2D09c here's the better view, and we have: Trinity and A-90, with JD-800 facing the stage Yes I agree, Trinity, A-90 and JD-800. The sounds on "There Must Be Some Other Way", sound very much like the Wavestation presets he used on Fading Lights - "Warm Str...

Re: Looking at a used Waldorf Q
Congrats on the Q!
A few years since I've played one, but I remember it being a powerful synth with a nice sound. I think the arpeggiator was quite good too. Plenty for you to dig into for sure.

Re: Looking at a used Waldorf Q
Well actually, make sure they change parameters smoothly without jumping values. Yes, exactly. The Q has endless encoders to control the sound engine so there shouldn't be any scratchy sounds. I think the Q was my first experience with endless encoders and I found it quite different to programing w...

Re: Yamaha TXP AWM
I've never seen one of those before. I remember the EMT-10 which sounded quite good. I'd guess this must be from the same era.

Re: VP-330 revisions
According to the A-Z of analogue synths (Peter Forrest) there were two revisions, so that potentially means three different versions. It lists changes to the keyboard, switches, generator, BBD chip, filter, human voice board and the vibrato. So quite a few changes. Peter suggests the change from SAD...

Re: functionality vs sound ....
On a desert island I would take the Micron over ANY monosynth. My music is mostly song based, so polyphony is pretty much essential for me. If you take polyphony out of the equation, then I'd probably go with sound over features (I might even take a nice Rhodes over a synth given the choice  ).

Re: Multivox analog synths?
The MX3000 is 4 synths in one as it were but not really comparable to other ones. The styling is very Roland though. And unlike most ARP quadra's it still works. I've seen a fair few partially working Quadras on ebay etc, and I sometimes wonder if they just need a new set of batteries. Mine went a ...

Re: Prophet 12 Rack!
You can get 90 degree din plugs. I once bought one and wired it to a MIDI cable for the very reason you mention. Sorry for highjacking the thread, but I have never heard of din plugs: where do I find that? A MIDI connector is a 5-pin din plug. They were used for audio purposes long before MIDI was ...

Re: Multivox analog synths?
So, what about them? Why that lack here in the gear list? Some of them should have been interesting (MX-75 for example). We would have wished to see here one of those good complete technical descriptions! some pics: http://fr.audiofanzine.com/synthe-analogique/forums/t.244604,synthes-analogiques-le...

Re: Prophet 12 Rack!
The link you posted presented it as a rack, so it was easy to just copy the title without thinking about it... As far as I can see, the keyboardless version of the Prophet 08 has a partially shallow "top" to help connect cables [and the possibility to choose between rack ears and wood ends], but it...

Re: Synth spotting: Alicia Keys interview
Nice little interview. She explains how I got my name! I saw her live at one of her London gigs in the summer which was good, but sadly she didn't bring out her Jupiter 8 to play 'No One' on this tour. I do like her songs, and especially 'The Element of Freedom' album which has quite a bit of ...

Re: Tragic Kingdon
I've always believed the sync sound on 'Just a Girl' to be a Jupiter 8 factory preset. I'm not totally sure on that though. Don't know about Sunday Morning, and wouldn't want to speculate. It is indeed a slightly distorted combo organ sound, so could be a Prophet 5 or any synth, maybe a real organ a...
