Thanks for your reply.commodorejohn wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 6:27 pmPretty much - the original Synclavier models were built around a repurposed minicomputer that was one of NED's earlier products, running its own OS and driving separate FM & sample recording/playback hardware; the rack housed all of that.

Linn Sequencer vs ASQ 10
Hi, Has anyone ever used both of these and can make a fair assessment as to the differences between the two, and whether the ASQ is better than the Linn Sequencer? The Linn Sequencer looks extremely simple to use, with very little buttons on it, where-as on the ASQ there are more buttons there and i...

What were the towers for on a Synclavier?
Hi there, https://reverb.com/item/86113745-new-england-digital-synclavier-psmt-1980-s I'm just really curious but how did those towers work in the back? I presume that was what was making the sounds, and basically, the Synclavier keyboard was just controlling what was going on in there? Does anyone ...

George Michael - I Want Your Sex Bassline
Hey, I am really curious as to how they achieved the bassline of I Want Your Sex as it is very unique. George and Chris Porter had explained below the process: "We were working on a song, again we just had a Juno, LinnDrum and DX7, and we connected them all up so that we could run them off MIDI. Aft...

Re: Touchprone MIDI to Clock on a Linndrum
Right, figured this out.
Set the Touchprone device to 48 PPWN. On the Linn, push in the Ext. Sync button and start the Linn, then on your MASTER CLOCK with whatever you are using, start that, and it should sync up.
Simple as that!

Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths
Ok, let's spill it here before I spill on Twitter (it's a great article BTW ;) ): Composite Bass "The bass part was done with three synths MIDI'd up: DX-7, Jupiter 6 and the Emulator II. The DX-7 voice was a very low pitched, percussive sound; it didn't have much of a note but it gave the thing dep...

Touchprone MIDI to Clock on a Linndrum
Hey all, Could anyone assist me with this please? I understand the Linndrum is 48 PPQ but for some reason, using the Roland SBX-1 as the MASTER clock , the drum machine isn't being synced, nor is it starting automatically. Does anyone have any experience with the Touchprone device? There's basically...

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question
So are you guys saying that they took all of the instruments they had and slammed it in as one sample on each note and then used the internal sequencer on the ASR-X to do the song? Is that right? EDIT: I mean really, they could have had multiple parts of the song assigned as one thing on one note, a...

Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question
Hi, I was reading about the "French Touch" scene and in-particular the song "Music Sounds Better With You" by Stardust and I noticed the sequencing was done on the ASR-X: Tell us about the making of Stardust Music Sounds Better With You. "The track was built by sampling the 1981 Chaka Khan record Fa...

Good MIDI Keyboard for Hardware?
Hi, Does anyone know of any good MIDI keyboards that can integrate well with a complete hardware setup with no software involved? A lot of the MIDI keyboards today seem to integrate specifically for DAWs, but I'm finding it difficult on deciding on something that's really encompassing with aftertouc...

MIDI on Effects Processors
Hi, Does anyone ever use the MIDI features on effects processors or do you just initialize a patch/effect setting and just run your equipment through the processors? Would be interesting if you could share some techniques if you do do this... never done it myself as I've always just turned it on and...

Phil Collins Take Me Home Arpeggiated Synth?
Hi, Does anyone know what synth was used on "Take Me Home" and "I Like The Way"? I feel like I will get a lot of s**t for liking Phil Collins in this board but I think he's awesome  . It starts at 0:08 on "I Like The Way": https://youtu.be/06kRPNbOl2o?t=8 It also starts at 0:08 on "Take Me Home...
