Re: Juno-106 DCO Bleed?

I would carefully check the board and the lines around the voice chips! Since desoldering these is not an easy task it can happen that some connections get damaged. Some lines go even through/under the connectors. I had to rebuilt 4 wires when searching for the faults in my Juno after swapping the v...

Thanks for the correction - absolutely right. :D
Just noticed this myself several days before while re-cabling my studio.

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

After obtaining a K2500 with OS 2.80 installed, I wanted to install the latest version, 3.02 (for non-KDFX units), which I downloaded from the Kurzweil website. While it seems to work in general, I noticed that now some patches behave strange. For example program 891 - SpaceStation sometimes introd...

Re: Juno 106 not receiving Sysex

If the switch is set to III it should be working! You can change patches and trigger notes? Then MIDI is generally working. Maybe the Midi mode switch is a bit rusty... Maybe try a different editor software?

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Hmmm - tricky! :-) Did you try connecting the K2500 to a different power outlet? (not the same multi as the PC) I have had good experiences generally with "star-formation" power cabling. All my audio gear is fed from one wall outlet. From a sturdy main mult it branches out - yes, like branches of a ...

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

You're referring to the K2500 keyboard version, I assume? I've got a K2500S keyboard and it's really quiet concerning noise (Yamaha 01v desk here). Note that the K2500 outputs are not symmetric even though they use TRS jacks! (it's a tricky send/return thing they did there) Just use TS cables to con...

Ironically, the phone these days has the power of, what... 1000 Wavestations..? *10,000* Wavestations..?

Tell that to my early 90s self and I wouldn't have believed you..!
And you can run your Wavestation on it!
(and pretty nicely too.)

Re: Juno 106 repair/questions

Seem like your Juno has the typical problem most older Junos have. You can have a look on the net for the procedure - in short: you'll need to desolder your voice chips and get rid of their plastic coating by soaking them in acetone for several days. While you're in there you might want to check and...

Re: Any Roland D110 users out there? Tips needed :)

Which trap got me so many times that I put a sticker to the back (before I start taking the synth apart) is the fact that the Outputs 7/8 do not work when the FX section is set to on!
So if you get no signal on 7/8 out - that's why. They're not broken. Yes, it's in the manual somewhere...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I can’t find anywhere online if I use a m512 card on the JV 1080, does that give me 128 user patches of storage on both half’s of the card. Sorry I missed your question until now - the 1080 only supports the M-256 type; using an M-512 would waste half the space. Sorry, I don' think that's right. I'...

Re: D110 unresponsive to midi

Could be a broken optical input coupler / opto isolator. It's a TLP552 at IC119 right behind the MIDI input jack. These are known to fail sometimes. Get the service manual and do some checks.

Re: virus ti

Using the Virus in TI-mode always was a real pain for me. For years there were huge sync issues and audio drop outs. Now it works (Mojave) but the latency is too big.
I prefer using the TI over MIDI and Audio I/O. Then the instrument is an absolute joy to use.

Re: Kawai K5000s - access to LCD display

Definitely not glued. It's been 6 years since that operation, so I don't remember exactly. But wasn't that hard. I don't remember having to remove a lot. There were no mechanical problems. Just make sure that you don't have any shorts in the display lines because shorting 5v to ground immediately ki...

Re: Deepmind 12 High Pitched Noise

The pitched noise/whine on mine was coming from the pitch/Mod-wheel illumination. You can turn the light off in the config menu. Now I don't have any unusual noises.
