Re: Any Roland D110 users out there? Tips needed :)

Which trap got me so many times that I put a sticker to the back (before I start taking the synth apart) is the fact that the Outputs 7/8 do not work when the FX section is set to on!
So if you get no signal on 7/8 out - that's why. They're not broken. Yes, it's in the manual somewhere...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I can’t find anywhere online if I use a m512 card on the JV 1080, does that give me 128 user patches of storage on both half’s of the card. Sorry I missed your question until now - the 1080 only supports the M-256 type; using an M-512 would waste half the space. Sorry, I don' think that's right. I'...

Re: D110 unresponsive to midi

Could be a broken optical input coupler / opto isolator. It's a TLP552 at IC119 right behind the MIDI input jack. These are known to fail sometimes. Get the service manual and do some checks.

Re: virus ti

Using the Virus in TI-mode always was a real pain for me. For years there were huge sync issues and audio drop outs. Now it works (Mojave) but the latency is too big.
I prefer using the TI over MIDI and Audio I/O. Then the instrument is an absolute joy to use.

Re: Kawai K5000s - access to LCD display

Definitely not glued. It's been 6 years since that operation, so I don't remember exactly. But wasn't that hard. I don't remember having to remove a lot. There were no mechanical problems. Just make sure that you don't have any shorts in the display lines because shorting 5v to ground immediately ki...

Re: Deepmind 12 High Pitched Noise

The pitched noise/whine on mine was coming from the pitch/Mod-wheel illumination. You can turn the light off in the config menu. Now I don't have any unusual noises.

Re: poorly MKS70 - not sure what's up with it, MIDI fault?

Seems like you have two broken voices (2 out of 12). In 12 voice poly mode the assigner plays them in rotary fashion, that's why the patterns/keys are like that. There is a test mode where you can find out, which voices on which board these are. It's in the service manual. (Hold "write" during power...

Re: poorly MKS70 - not sure what's up with it, MIDI fault?

Does not sound like a setup error to me. Possibly a broken voice on one of the boards. Can you tell if the erroneous sound comes from one of the boards (upper OR lower, or both)?
I would try to isolate the voice - maybe there's a test mode? (get the service manual...)
Good luck!

Re: sysex checksum error - Korg WS

Yep, go slow. I don't know MidiOX but in some tools you can slow down the transmission speed. (I use Sysex Librarian)
I remember having lots of problems with that (even completely crashing my WS just before the gig! :o ) until I updated the WS to FW 3.19.

Re: M1 - Volume Slider Only Controls Right Output

I don't know if the volume slider on the M1 was analog - I assume, yes. (Is it a stereo pot?)
Sounds like the right attenuator does not have contact to ground (to pull down the signal towards ground), check for broken/cracked traces or cables.

Re: In Need of System or Utility Disk for Roland S-550

Did you check this page?
http://llamamusic.com/s50s550/sinfo.html#S-550Info

It's one of the very best resources for these old Roland samplers.
Also, check if you can boot from the Utility Disk v1.13 and load your samples after that ("Load Set")

Re: Any Roland D110 users out there? Tips needed :)

Hi, the most difficult thing with the D-110 is understanding its data structure! The Patches in the D-110 (the d-10/d-20 don't have these!) are actually sets of settings for all the 8 (plus R) parts! That's why they're rather empty/generic. The actual sound patches are called Timbres referring to To...

Re: roland s330 sampler - the sound of it... gritty/lo-fi?

The filter is digital. Yup, it seems to be. I have checked in the service manual. They convert to 16 Bit and send the wave data to the TVF16 custom IC. I don't know what happens inside that one. It sure doesn't sound like a digital filter (early nineties!) though. AFAIK back then there weren't a lo...

Re: roland s330 sampler - the sound of it... gritty/lo-fi?

The S-330 has a nice lo-fi sound, yes. But not that gritty, there's no harsh highs. Roland did the playback engine well and it has a 16Bit converter that makes its sound smoother than other 12 Bit samplers. It also has an analog filter with resonance! You will need mouse and monitor, otherwise you'r...
