Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

The lowest price I can find for the Mopho is still £100 more than I'm spending on this, and it only has one filter. It does have four LFOs, though. That's pretty good.

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

For anyone curious, I had a play with the Fizmo's own resonance filter to make wind sound, using an FM radio as the noise source. It might be glaringly obvious that the Fizmo's filter is digital - I don't know. Here is the mp3.

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

Well, I have ordered the LittleBits Korg synth kit. Before that, I emailed them to get information. can you get a good bit of resonance on the filter? The answer is, apparently, "yes". Depending on how far down you can tune the LittleBits oscillators, you could even set up an LFO for the cutoff freq...

Modulate the cutoff of the filter with noise and it get more interesting.
Can you tell me what happens when you do that?

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

The dilemma here is that almost any synth would be overkill since I only need a few components, but very specific ones, and few cheap synths have them all. Well, how about this for a rather hilarious solution? The LittleBits Synth system . It's basically a modular synth, but very cheap. You can buil...

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

The Fizmo doesn't work like that. Trust me, it really isn't good for anything "normal"!

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

Yekuku's idea to use an old radio as a noise source really appeals to me, because of the lo-fi fun and because I actually have a radio lying around that would be ideal! So I'm thinking, with the "noise generator" secured, the cheapest way to modulate it would be the Monotron Delay. Here is a demo. A...

Re: Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

Thanks, Commodore John, that's very helpful.

What about a Microbrute, or a Korg Monotribe?

I've also been intrigued by the Korg Monotron Delay. It doesn't have a noise generator but it seems to create noise "by accident" when you turn up the LFO rate to maximum.

Cheapest possible hardware for making wind SFX?

I'd appreciate advice on how to proceed. What I want to do could be done easily with a few VSTs, but for sentimental reasons I want a little hardware device. Now, the only hardware synth I have is the Fizmo, and it isn't good for what I want to do. The goal is to make lots of "wind" sound effects - ...
