Re: The Model - Kraftwerk Synths
The image shows a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev. 2 or 3 which was used by Florian Schneider during the 1981 world tour. Ralf's rig was initially made up of a Minimoog, stacked on top of a Polymoog, stacked on top of a Vako Orchestron (before the Orchestron was replaced with a second Polymoog (f...

The Model - Kraftwerk Synths
On the official song video it's showing another Synth I'm not sure of.
There's 2 interesting sounds the main one at the beginning and my favourite bit at 1.35.
Anyone know the Synth on picture? Thanks.

Re: A-ha - Stay on these Roads drum sound
The main drum sounds are definitely LinnDrum. The gated toms at 0:32 sound like Simmons SDX, SDS-2000, or Trixter (the SDS-2000 & Trixter get their sounds from the SDX library). I don't hear anything at 0:38 other than the LinnDrum pattern. EDIT: I just looked at Wikipedia and it says a Yamaha RX5 ...

Re: A-ha Stay on these Roads
According to wikipedia, "A Synclavier, Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, Yamaha DX-7, Roland D-50, and Roland Juno-60 or Roland Juno-106 synthesizers were used in the recording of this album, as was a Yamaha RX-5 drum machine.[citation needed]". That might not be 100% accurate, though. They were also ...

Re: A-ha - Stay on these Roads drum sound
Funnily enough, just went to Synmania and there's a timpani sound on the Juno 106, Mags used to play that alot aswell as the DX7, he's even playing on it in recent years. If is timpani, I have the Roland Ju06 with 106 presets on it recently, just need less delay and a way to make trigger quick for ...

Re: A-ha - Stay on these Roads drum sound
0.47 and 0.48, 1.35 1.54 and 1.58. Timpani, never thought of that. Thanks. On first video. It's on second vid too Now I'm hearing it much better. Like that second pattern, which you call it "other octave", is just that timpani, but like 4 semitones up. I mixed quite around it, just separated the le...

Re: A-ha - Stay on these Roads drum sound
What I can tell you... To me it's sounding like a timpani from another sampler. You know, it's 1988 already, so possibilities what that particular timpani sound is originally from are countless. Moreover even on analog synths you can create such a percussive sound. Could you provide the timestamps ...

A-ha - Stay on these Roads drum sound
I'm interested in how alot of sounds in music are made, sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not. So just getting an opinion on what anyone, drummers, Synth players or anyone what I call 'thunder drum' sound. When they perform on old TV show vids, the drummer looks like he's doing it on the Tom's,...

Re: 'Do they know its Christmas' main sound.
Sweet girl by his side, by the way. Hm, one thing he said which made my mind blowing was "too analogue to be addictive". Well, means that PPG Wave is analogue? Pitty that he didn't try to remade this on Waldorf's plugin. The fact is that you could remade such a sound just by cutting off frequ...

Re: 'Do they know its Christmas' main sound.
Umm... What I can tell you... The most similar preset I found so far is "Voice 2" from DX7. In the Arturia's emulation the preset is called "Rom2A 20-VOICE 2". But it's actually a layered sound. The preset I mentioned is more on the right channel, but there's another buzzing synth on left channel. ...

Re: Oberheim OB-X and Ultravox
If you are referring to Currie’s lead wiggling, I only hard a quick listen but it sounded like a classic hard sync bend type sound to me. Hard sync the two oscillators, turn down oscillator 2 and modulate it’s pitch using an envelope or other pitch source. I'll try remember that, now I need to emul...

'Do they know its Christmas' main sound.
A few years ago I asked Midge on Twitter what Synths were used on 'Do they Know its Christmas Time? ' He told me DX7 for bells and PPG for everything else. Whether it was a PPG 2.2 or 2.3. I have no idea which preset makes that nostalgic sound. I try to refrain from loving Synth music but nostalgia ...

Re: Oberheim OB-X and Ultravox
Does the OB-X have presets? Yep, if you read the entries on the OBX here or on Wikipedia you'd see it has 32 presets. I'm interested to know what preset Billy Currie used on his Oberheim for 'We Stand alone'. It would help if you'd tell us which particular sound on that track you are interested in....

Oberheim OB-X and Ultravox
Hiya, needing help from Oberheim enthusiasts here. Does the OB-X have presets? I'm interested to know what preset Billy Currie used on his Oberheim for 'We Stand alone'. I've tried on my Synths but can't get it right just like this. Attached are some samples from OB-8, are the OB-X presets the same?...
