Re: Have presets killed control once more?
As far as in the studio goes, I find I'm in two modes. Sitting and programming or standing and performing/recording. Very few keyboards are in that perfect reach zone for hands on programming where I can access the surface and play it just as easily. Usually it's the newest synth that gets the front...

Re: Microkorg XL
It's also in this thread a few pages back, but I couldn't find it. Soon as everyone started commenting on the look..well I realized I'd forgotten what it looked like and needed a refresher! I dunno about the quality of his vid. I'd like to see a polished demonstration like a product trailer. Mostly ...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
I agree that he physical interface and layout and...well chain of menus DO lead to programming tendencies. I see it as the logic of the GUI designer...they have a method/order they think you will want to work in. I don't see a trend through...it'd have to be a sweeping change. If anything I'd say ma...

Re: hard vs soft synths
You mean a straight maths VST as in a full install of ~ 60Mbs?
Sample libraries or multi-samples...yes.
Omnisphere is $499. That's close enough....

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
things with extremely limited control sets in regard to the overall architectural depth
If you wanted that much control, wouldn't you buy the full keyboard synth? And shouldn't you be speaking about the knobbage on the Prophet 08 and Access TI and Waldorf Stromberg?

I think it's important. Mystery and not knowing what's around the bend makes the journey more enjoyable.

Re: hard vs soft synths
Well they're too many replies to deal with each one so I'll summarize. Thread title was Hard verse Soft Synths ...I clearly said early on that the Sequencer issue was a different matter. No where did tyrannos' argument make it seem it was a choice between a Tape machine from the 70's verse a cracked...

Re: hard vs soft synths
It already is faster, because album production is already for a good part in software (ProTools, Nuendo, etc.) This was about soft verse hard VSTs... My Sequencer is not a plug-in. My DAW is not a plug-in. Just make a list of tasks you have to do to get to the point where you can record a new part ...

Re: hard vs soft synths
So he has to weigh up the advantages of using hardware and taking longer, or being able to work quickly with software and spend more time on arranging and writing. When there's severe time and money pressure, plugins are a no brainer ... Why would hardware take longer? If you meant Sequencer-wise, ...
