Re: MusicRadar 10 Greatest Synths all time....

Saw it posted by KORG. Didn't know it was old.

But I guess that list still holds up 5 years later. :?

At any rate, not sure if it's NEWS or something, that, you know, people on a synth forum might care to weigh in on.
I think it's weird that there's one on the list I never heard of.

MusicRadar 10 Greatest Synths all time....

http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/the-10-greatest-synthesizers-of-all-time-224433 #10 Oberheim OB-Xa The success of Sequential Circuits' Prophet-5 shook the synth industry. Monosynths were declared dead almost overnight, and if your synth couldn't store sounds, you might as well have scrapped it f...

Re: Just how far have synths come in the last 20 years?

Here's my answer: who cares? I see people spouting this notion all the time: Such-and-such is "irrelevant" or "dated." Such-and-such is therefore somehow artistically invalid. A lot of that is about Artists that are no longer relevant or cutting edge in their genre of origin or notoriety. That's di...

Re: Just how far have synths come in the last 20 years?

Nobody goes around saying "oh I don't play piano because its old, it came out all the way back in 1750!" I'd add that when someone wants to buy their home/child a piano in 2015, they don't go looking for a "vintage" piano. They may want classic styling, but they visit stores with modern selections....

Re: Choosing TR8 and TB3 over TR808/909 and TB303

It might be worth noting that some gear arrived with NEW SONIC CAPABILITIES that were rare or didn't exist at all- before.... So it could be as simple as (those older artists) creating whatever they wish and it would sound new and different or even futuristic because their instruments were, um...tha...

Architect of The Heavens - ambient space stuffs

https://f1.bcbits.com/img/a2562453898_2.jpg It's a cosmic journey of sound, based on the sights of our planetary system. What unseen hand shaped the heavens and put the planets in motion? He has left us wheels and cogs as evidence of his handiwork. A clock maker on a universal scale. Beyond time an...

Re: Value of a sound bank / sound designer

I re-read this OP topic 3 times because I always seem to miss the point on VSE. And what's a reasonable value of sound banks for HW/SW synths? Why not consider what they go for already? Many sites sell exactly that. As a 'new guy/site' your prices could start a bit lower and rise accordingly. - Or y...

Re: The sound of time ...

People want old synths more than they want new synths not because old ones are inherently better, but because they're the synths they heard on their favourite songs and they want to recreate those sounds. That speaks to some kind of demographic and age group. NOT EVERYONE listened to big 70s/80s [i...

Re: New hybrid digital/analogue Roland Synth?

the microkorg was basically an even more mass market version of mid 90s VA synths I agree with many of the points here, the microKORG may have been a baby MS2000, but no one (really) knew that. I find that it works in waves and is impossible to name an exact product. When I considered a Voyager, it...

Re: Saying it's live with a laptop next ....

Okay, so the actual, bottom line is that a LAP TOP is a TOOL and the problem arises when it is employed in the place of a [an expected, preferred, imagined] musical instrument. Except, going to see a live show is about seeing a live show . So I expect to see musicians...doing musician things...got t...

Re: Akai Analog Drum Machine

OTOH, what are these other 'great' cheap analog drum machines? I was kind of bored by the volca, and it is pretty limited in terms of ins and outs. Is there some other? I assume you are talking to me, but it was the reviewer who commented about alternatives and mentioned the Volca. I never used the...

Re: Akai Analog Drum Machine

I'll reserve judgement until I can make it to a GC or some other store. But you won't reserve judgement for the people that actually have used it and are reviewing it. Point blank, they are saying it does not sound good. Not the base tone or the filters or what they hyped and included as its main e...

Re: Why KORG will never release a *real* drum machine

I'd love to hear what a 'real' drum machine is. I don't think it's something you hear , I think it's about something it Does . That seems to be rooted in FORM FACTOR and Functionality. So I'm guessing 'multi-outs' makes it serious..... Song mode....makes it more serious.... Pads that are meant to b...
