Re: pain in the a*s synths (frustration)
the Spectralis is not far behind. Talk about a monster in need of a PC editor.... It could fill 3 monitors easily. I agree. I'd add the Andromeda A6. Firstly because the engine is 'free running' so I'd make a change and never get it to repeat the same sound from a new key depress because she was in...

Re: Your SoundCloud profile!
Hate to break the rhythm of people posting their profiles, but is this a site for just uploading and storing tracks or is there any kind of fanbase or music lovers on there looking for new music to explore?
I'm looking for a place to reach to out to people.

Re: Recent unpopularity of Wavestation?
And remember... it may not be worth much to some but it will ALWAYS be worth more than a second hand soft synth - depressing but very true. Furthermore, it will still be working 20 years later, something that can't be said for your average PC and support for it's Operating System!! A sentiment repe...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
as well as finding tools which do not suit their purposes to be undesirable. It's ridiculous that this very reasonable premise is labeled "elitism" by you. It's not ARP2600 verse ROMpler that spells elitism in my book. It's judgments either way about those that choose to use either tool or are maki...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
By the way folks, if i know something to last detail, i know Roland's ROMpler product line as that's what i grew up on, starting from JV-80... So if you got any more question, feel free to ask... I would love to find a resource that details synthesis engines/methods and follows some kind of tree th...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
That's a bit like saying that the professional general contractor is a total snob because he has tools for his job that the general DIY layman doesn't. That's like saying studio owners are massive asshole snobs because they insist on high-end mixer boards and processing instead of just using a comp...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
I think you've found the ultimate reason for these circular arguments. I bet some are reading this thread with their POST A REPLY box already open. I see the insulting undertone here. "Synthesists (what a cool thing to be called) use synthesizers, but when we speak about WHO uses ROMplers it''s alwa...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
I agree with Automatic Gainstay. Man, I wish he had a blog to read. I've always drawn the distinction between patches generated in Real Time and Stored Playback. I discount 'running through stuff' and any type of sculpting/shaping tools done along the way since any robust board can have tons of edit...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
Strangely enough I had the exact opposite experience. I was looking to get traditional instrument sounds from a synthesizer and all the sounds were cheesy. I would turn to the synth guy and say Hey, can you do an upright bass? and he would turn and twist knobs and push sliders and the results all so...

Re: New Roland and/or Korg synths using REAL analog filters?
I strongly agree. A person who is just getting into music (who is also your best customer since they are actually looking to buy stuff and not just find an excuse to appreciate what they already have more :? ) doesn't take much note in the difference between a Moog patch coming from a Voyager and th...

Re: New Roland and/or Korg synths using REAL analog filters?
30 years is a little too far, but I can help you with 15-20 years. It's whatever sound is in the big hit records of today. Kids fall in love with a musical sound from their 'formulative years' and when they grow up and decide to make music, they lean towards that sound. Thus all the threads asking a...

Re: Elektron Octatrack
My number #1 worry is that is will have that elektron sound... cold and digital, harsh and thin, uninspiring to me and very very digital. Just listening to that little clip on youtube sounds makes me nervous I'm not gonna like the sound characteristics. The fact that it's a Sampler should remove 95...

Re: KORG ESX-1 vs KORG microSAMPLER
I guess that's the issue. All three can basically do the same thing in the end, but the approaches are so different. I could see the confusion when they are so similar... http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/fashion.jpg Or close in functionality.... http://www.wyomingcompounding.com/images/PhysicianIma...

I can't imagine spending several hours in front of a piece of gear and still not knowing if it's for me...or not. Not knocking your ability to discern, but if that didn't make you fall in love, what can you possibly hope to gain from a bunch of opinions on a forum? Our opinions should make you do......

All of that was done to a Tee with Effectrix running inside Ableton as a demo at the last NAMM. Ableton tends to get all the credit when it's really the plug-in doing all the work. I'm still curious to Exactly it will handle the internal samples (browsing and storage capacity and kits/multis) and wh...
