Re: bass from Sussudio...how

Definitely sounds like a real bass tracked with a resonant sounding FM bass up high.

Re: Roland TR-606 Emulation Coming to the TR-8

Interesting. Yeah, the 606 is so nasty sounding (in a good way). Curious to hear how they emulate that.

What caused you to do that to the poor paia??? I built mine, and would never sell it (even though it's not the most chromatically useful synth).

Re: playstation startup screen: what synth?

What's odd is I was thinking of this last week, not knowing this thread existed! D50 sounds about right.

Re: CEM3340 Reissue

Because we don't really do electronics here I thought this place was called Vintage Synth Explorer? This is pretty big news for anyone who's into repairing/refurbishing vintage synths... There are a number of people here who build and repair synths, and love talking about them at the component level.

Re: CEM3340 Reissue

Excellent. I hope they get around to the 3320 filter as well. That, combined with the 3310 env, can be thrown into anything and be really powerful.

Here's Bobby Prince working on the soundtrack to the original Doom (1993) with his Ensoniq EPS.

Re: Reissues you'd like to see...

I'd be really into a reissue of the Sp12, filters on each channel. Just listen to any of the Cabaret Voltaire from Microphonies to hear how amazing it can sound. +1 on the An1x. Yamaha didn't listen when they hosted that survey.

Re: Mood model D reissue

I can't imagine them holding out on a limited run. The demand for this will be astronomical...assuming it doesn't cost as much as a car.

Re: Buying first synth, looking for something under $500

An1x is just skirting the $400-500 area now. Pretty wild. I know why, but damn!

Do you know how to program synths? Do you know subtractive synthesis? Do you like to emulate pan flutes?

Re: Last remaining good value analogue poly synths?

I always found the ESQ interface to be really good. Dedicated button right above the parameter, and no diving of menus. As for the SQ80, I think one think holding it back are the terrible keys. I enjoyed mine, and definitely miss it's character.

Re: PreenFm2 Demo

Thanks Kayvon This really makes navigating the FM architecture a lot more intuitive. You can quickly scroll through the menus with press+hold shortcuts, and lots of the params update in real time (unlike DX synths). It's f**k excellent for quickly creating new songs. and hi Xavier! I've got to say, ...

Re: PreenFm2 Demo

I waited for a long time until the kit was available. It can load Dx7 patches, but not everything translates directly. Some patches sound really close (like Tubular Bells) but some others are off a bit. Once I realized that it's own engine is far more powerful than the Dx7, I stopped being concerned...

PreenFm2 Demo

I just finished a demo for the DIY FM synth PreenFM2. I love this synth. It has so many unique features, and a really wide sound palette. It was a really simple build, with no issues. I've been through the gamut of FM synths, and this one beats them all. It has a great form factor (sits on the side ...
