Re: Why buy hardware synths?
They interface relatively easily with analog effects processors.

Re: Opinions Wanted: Waldorf
I don't get it, why wouldn't anyone get the Blofeld over the XT? Seems like it would have more features and combines the XT and Q somewhat in one. It doesn't. The Blofeld is based on the Q genetics - it shares (most) sound and function with the Q, MicroQ, Komplexer, and Largo. The MicroWave2/XT/XTk...

Re: Studio Electronics ATC-Xi demos forthcoming
Bass Leads Arps Drones In that order. *No* use of any external processing whatsoever - dry as a bone. Multiple filter use would be welcome, but even more so a demonstration of the shading of the discrete analog distortion. That said, a demo of the bandpass response for pad-like sounds would be great...

Re: Thinking of getting a Korg Z1
DANG Aeon! Those are some nice shots. Would be nice to see that editor in OSX format. Did you make that editor or where did you find that? Yeah, they really serve to show just how deep the Korg Z1 engine is, and in particular, just how many modulation paths (dual, even) there are to help build a re...

Re: Moog MF104z VS RE201 VS RE501
What is the dirtiest sounding between the MF104z, RE201, and RE501? And I mean DIRTY. I want this to totally f**k with whatever I put through it and color it with its signature sound and grain up and distort and do whatever the f**k to the signal. Anyone who has had one or both of these please chim...

Re: Subtle airy motion (doppleganger/ModFactor)
I don't use reverbs because it sonically confines your sound. Even an infinite reverb suggest a gigantic empty building, but not an open space. I prefer echoes and modulations, because it sounds as it could have been recorded into the mountains or a vast plain. That's a function of reverb algorithm...

Re: Subtle airy motion (doppleganger/ModFactor)
Hello Ian. Are you one of those who tried both? No, I haven't used the ModFactor. I based my recommendation on awareness of its algorithms and experience with my Eventide H8000FW. I like breathy/spacey/airy/pastoral/natural sounding psychedelic music. We have something in common then. ;) I never us...

Re: Subtle airy motion (doppleganger/ModFactor)
I've got a Lovetone Doppelganger...if you are looking to get that kind of effect, and be able to control it such that you get subtle or over-the-top, I would first consider the Eventide ModFactor.

Re: Battle of the lower-priced 'hybrid' synths.
The Korg DW8000 has one filter per voice, i.e., 8 voices (with two DWGS oscs each) and 8 filters.

Keys are generally open-air and with significant surface area. Racks are generally not open-air nor do they have significant surface area to help with heat dissipation or ventilation.

Only the hands-on aspect of it and the sound characteristics that only a discrete analog signal path and analog tape saturation can provide.FX23 wrote:Is there anypoint getting a old tape echo machine...

Don't deactivate the fan - just replace it with a silent equivalent.

Re: Glitch Effects Hardware?
The Eventides are definitely awesome but if you have that much cash to spend and wanted to spend it for glitchery, you'd probably be better off going with a Kyma system or modular or something like that instead, no?
An Eventide of the ones I mentioned (and a couple I...

Re: Glitch Effects Hardware?
It's not really cost-effective if you are only going to use it for this (glitch) purpose, but a modular-level Eventide with sampling engine, e.g., DSP7500, Orville, H7600, and/or H8000-series, would work very well for this (among other things) since you would be able to program the glitch effects yo...
