Re: E-mu Morpheus
I used to have a Mopheus, now i have an UltraProteus. Either is a nice synth to get atmospheres and sweeping sounds out of due to the nature of the filters. Aside from that, these boxes can do a lot of other tricks too that are not typical of a "rompler." If one can be had cheap, they are a fun addi...

Re: [Lust] Empress Superdelay
A nice pedal to be sure, and a worthy competitor to the Pigtronix Echolution. The only issue to be cognizant of is that the input is geared for instrument level, so if it is desired to be used with synths, a reamp might be in order, or a pedal beforehand with a buffer, or a call to Empress to get on...

Re: Roland SH-201 or Alesis Ion?
For your intended uses, the Alesis ION.
Why? So many patches exist already for classic rock and prog. The Roland SH-201 is voiced more for modern club sound. Yea, I generalize - both are capable of what you want to do - I think the ION will do a better job more easily.
cheers,
Ian

Clavia Nord Modular Korg OASYS PCI To me, both are fun to program, sound great, and offer so much potential in terms of sound. So many synthesis types can be explored: virtual analog, modular and semi-normalled virtual analog drum synthesis frequency modulation PCM playback wavesequence synthesis w...

Re: Sampler SCSI Drive noise ...
yeah it's an internal , an IBM 10k 18GB thing , I've just ordered a Fujitsu drive off ebay in the hope that this one doesn't make my ears bleed. The reason it is that loud is because it is a 10,000RPM drive. Try and find a fluid-bearing Seagate - those are whisper-quiet for this application. cheers...

Re: favorite reverb?
i use the an ensoniq dp/pro and a lexicon lxp15. as mentioned above, the plates on the lexicon are gorgeous, while the other algos are a little too synthetic for my tastes (not that they're bad--better than most out there--just not as natural as i want and too colored in specific frequencies)...the...

Would you mind commenting on what you did not like about the Yamaha 01X reverbs? I do not ask to challenge you (never owned an 01X), but I am curious as to your perspective on those algos.portland wrote:LEAST FAVORITES:

Re: favorite reverb?
okay, okay, to prove I am not full of hate- Would we love you any less if you were? Lexicon LXP series - Those plates are the digital algo for plates. All the other reverbs are nice, but the plate is tops I've never used or owned the LXP1 or LXP5, but I do have a LXP15II, and I agree, the pla...

Re: The "Why multiple samplers"
Does it go thru the filters as well? Like, can you use the filters to modify the sound from the A/D? No. You have to sample to use those - and when you do, you then have the ability (on the A5K) to use up to 6 fx blocks, and do things like parallel compression, and such. I've used the internal filt...

Re: The "Why multiple samplers"
Yamaha A5000 because it is a wealth of resources for the creative programmer, and I really like its effects - so much so that I use it as a synth preamp. I suppose you put the output of a synth thru the A/D input. I use to have a A3000 and I found that it was kind of slow on some realtime things an...

Re: The "Why multiple samplers"
Roland S-760 because I have a decent library for it, and because it sounds like a JD-990 with user-waves. *That* filter.

Re: NAMM FX news
Very nice that Eventide has made this pedal at last. As expected, they left their UltraShifter algorithm in their modulat-level rack processors. cheers, Ian interesting... what is UltraShifter algorithm about? UltraShifter is the best-quality iteration of the Eventide pitch-shift algorithm. It has ...

Re: favorite reverb?
Best bang for the buck in hardware is likely the Kurzweil Rumour. One channel of KSP8 reverb for ~$500 USD. Heck, I got mine shipped for $305USD :) Score! That's a great price for the quality you get. I really dig the Kurz reverbs - IME they work in so many situations, and deliver for drums (among ...

Re: favorite reverb?
Just to clarify, the 300L/480L are out of production and Nuverb is some card for ridiculously old Macintoshes, correct? What is lexicon's latest and greatest, possibly using the same reverb algorithms as these two? The newest are the Lexicon 960L and PCM96 - but they don't use the algorithms of the...

Re: favorite reverb?
You can get VSS3 as a plug-in, yea.
When I spoke of it, I was referring to my t.c. M3000 and my brief use of a Reverb 4000 unit.
