Re: Vocoders

My three fave vocoders (not that I have used many):
  • Roland SVC-350
  • Clavia Nord Mod G1 (classic sound)
  • Korg OASYS PCI (Dan Philips O-Code)

Correct - it might be better to say that the VP-330 has a SVC-350 built into it.

Re: External Multi-Effects (Eventide, TC Electronic etc)

It has a button for each effect, so you can switch them on and off on the fly. Yes, this works quite nicely in an on-the-fly remix sense, but it is also a great way to quickly explore effect variations. It has LFOs, Envelopes, and other modulation busses to animate almost any parameter of the effec...

Re: External Multi-Effects (Eventide, TC Electronic etc)

I'd be really interested to hear...what sort of extreme processing is possible through the modular aspect of the unit...The modular aspect is what it would have over an Eventide that I can afford at this stage... The FireworX can seriously mangle sound, if you want it to - or you can create delay n...

Re: Audio Interface advice needed

I'd give a long look at the Metric Halo 2882, especially now with the arrival of the d2 +DSP upgrade. You get the benefit of a great I/O box with solid drivers combined with top-shelf DSP processing and bussing. If the idea of having coloration, eq, and dynamics (among other things) on the iron as y...

Re: Using Compression on Synths?

In the meanwhile, perhaps I will get one of those PBCs as a poor(ish) man's distressor. Not sure it is going to satisfy you in this regards (I think the distortion will be there, but not the harmonics)... but it does sound good on vocals cranked up and on thick... I may have to get it for that use....

Re: I know it's a little early....................

id like to se a new electribe too. with engine going away from that plasticky MS2000/Z1 generation of VA coding to more up to date modelling, as found in Oasys and Radias (MMT?) Hate to point out such a little thing, but the EMX and ESX already use MMT from the Radius. my bad. i never played radias...

Re: External Multi-Effects (Eventide, TC Electronic etc)

This is exactly the reply I wanted. You are most welcome. I suspect that what it will come down to for me is whether I want the modular programming of the Fireworx, despite a weaker sound, or the Eventide power of the Eclipse While the FireworX offers a pedal-style modularity to its engine, do cons...

Re: External Multi-Effects (Eventide, TC Electronic etc)

The main reasons I am drawn to external FX units such as you describe vs. the use of native plug-ins are: Heritage of Algorithm Design - the companies have algorithms that have evolved over years' time, with real-world use in professional racks, both studio and stage, with the necessary feedback to ...

Re: Reverb pedal for x0xb0x?

Not really concerned with the stereo output... should I be? I mean, what is the advantge of putting a mono source into it and then having it come out stereo? Wider sound stage? Stereo allows for the psychoacoustic cues that our brain uses to perceive a sound being in a "space." Part of that comes f...

Re: Analog Synths with Multitrack sequencers?

I'd look at getting some good-sounding synths (not necessarily analog or digital, just ones that sound good to you ) with hands-on control, i.e., knobs, and sequence/drive them with the MnM. I have had great fun driving the following six-pack of synths from my Elektron MonoMachine SFX-6. Clavia Nord...

Re: Good distortion pedal for Korg MS-20

I think that my EHX Big Muff (my one and only pedal so probably not that qualified to answer) sounds pretty sweet on synths, particularly in the mid to upper bass range. Mainly run it along side the original signal to add girth which it does well IMO. Running guitar dirt pedals in parallel with the...
