Korg OASYS PCI does it excellently. Cheap. Easy to use, PITA to integrate with a modern studio.

But it wasn't the kind of hardware tallowwaters wanted.

Someone needs to make a digital hardware box that does convolution that is loaded with impulse responses for things like tape, transformers, cabinets, mics, and stuff like that, all taken from slutty gear. The transformer box is easy enough to make and cheap kinda, but you have to make sure you have...

Nice! I am moving to Minneapolis in a couple of days! :D

I can't imagine the purpose of sampling the ensemble effect as the playback will sound like many stringers playing back at once, one key each. Ian Actually it doesn't sound like that in real life, although what you say is logical. Sampling it with the ensemble effect helps to mitigate that it's a f...

I notice there are quite a few of the Lexicon LXP-1 and LXP-5's out there on ebay right now, do those offer the same quality and "fullness" of reverb as the LXP-15, but just with slimmed-down options? Only kinda. Wait for the Lexicon LXP-15 II. Note the "II" part. The LXP-1 does look like a good fi...

I noticed the Hiwatt only has a short- and long-delay head each. Hmm. Gimme the multi-tap of a Roland Space/Chorus Echo please!

Hehe you should come to my place and show me how to do all that. Sounds like a nice holiday! :D Reverb can be added afterwards. I've heard the rule about recording dry so reverb can be added instead of muddying up the raw sound. Exactly. But the delay is dependant on you playing while recording it ...

You don't really see guitars come in hardcases either nowadays. You walk into a guitar center (or whatever), pick one you like after demoing a couple hours in the back room, and buy a soft bag to carry it home with. That's part of the reason I made my guitar choice (one so far, haha) a EBMM Axis Su...

I can't imagine the purpose of sampling the ensemble effect as the playback will sound like many stringers playing back at once, one key each. The ensemble effect of a stringer acts as an insert effect for all the keys playing at once - so no matter how many keys are played, there is one ensemble ac...

I bought a Roland SH-2, and it came with the original Roland case. Nice!

I bought a Roland RS-505 Paraphonic, and it came with a case. Nice!

I wish all synths came with a case, or were built like the Roland SH-5, where the case is an integral part of the design.

Um....rright..hm. So how do bands record their guitar effects and whatnot onto records? Sounds like you have to do lots of "get-arounds" just to record the FX into the track. Why? I thought it was "what you hear is what you get". I'm no recording tech, I just want it done easily :P Sure, I could ad...

I suppose you could try reloading the OS.

Was this a case of "working before" and "next morning" it just didn't work? Or were there other changes to your setup and this is a new config within your studio?

(I own a G1 Nord Mod keys w/DSP exp.)

Forget getting a synth. For ambient, you need some effects processing, and in particular, reverb. My recommendation? Lexicon LXP-15 II. It's from the late 80s, and can be had used for as little as ~$200. (That's what I paid on eBay.) Lush sound, and arguably better than later MPX-series boxes. For ~...

I bought one from Mike Lindup of Level 42. It was a backup unit of his.

I dunno...it looked so awesome on paper, but in use, it was fairly lackluster.

Just shows VCOs and a mod matrix don't always deliver.
