Re: Slim Phatty
Gotta give props to Moog. Finally it's a populist synth product from them.

Re: Why do people hate the alesis SR16?
That's the first drum machine I ever laid hands on. Used to have a neighbor growing up in Nashville who thought he was Timbuk 3 and bought one of these when it first came out. Easy to use and sounded like a real drummer to me. At the time it sounded better than the early '80s Dr. Rhythm my brother u...

Re: Favorite Synth for Bass Sounds
The nicest thing about the SH09 is that it costs a good $300 or more less than an SH101. I've been scouting one in the $400 range for months now. At $800 or so for an SH101 I'm thinking I'd rather buy a Mopho Keyboard.

Re: Juno 106 a.k.a. HS-60 parts
Why not try using the VCA level fader instead of the volume knob. That's one way to get around a scratchy volume pot.

Re: Synths used on RUSH 2112?
In Houston the Diamondvision gave us a real nice closeup of Geddy's pedals when he was playing the oompah introduction to "La Villa Strangiato" and it sure didn't like a Taurus 3 to me. Maybe Alex is using one though.

Re: Favorite Synth for Bass Sounds
Really depends on what I'm going for. I don't always want the ONE BASS TO RULE THEM ALL. Sometimes I want a bassline and tone to be more of a team player. If I want it to hog bandwidth then I reach for the Little Phatty. If I want it to be more of a team player I reach for the Tetra or Juno 106. If ...

Re: Performing Solo Live
For years I would make a mix of the parts I didn't want to play live and play it back from an iPod. I was a slave to whatever song structure I'd pre-recorded but found it worked okay. But then a year or so ago I got to feeling like I should be actually performing "live" as to playing over a pre-reco...

Re: Synths used on RUSH 2112?
If you check this site out http://www.rushtrader.com/rush.htm you can learn a little bit more about their tours and when tracks were debuted and such. Good on ye, Micke! I'd always assumed that was a MiniMoog. VH1 Classics recently aired the 2112/Moving Pictures episode of Classic Albums and Terry B...

Re: first moog synth...
I'm not being an asshole on purpose - but can't you get the moog sound from a little phatty too? Yes indeed you can. That's my stock go-to synthesizer for pretty much anything I can't play with chords. If it's too big I go to the Tetra or Juno. I've commented on here before about my love-hate relat...

Re: first moog synth...
i'm with AG. If you want the stereotypical bandwidth-hogging Moog sound...the MG-1 just doesn't really do that. I owned one for several years and sold it after I bought a Source. The first time I touched a key on the Source...THAT was what a Moog was supposed to sound like. I've played a Micromoog b...

Re: dsi mopho
Yes. I never plugged mine into a computer for sequencing. It's small enough that I could take it with me to work and program it standalone during my lunch hour. Loved that Mopho so much that I recently traded it in on a Tetra. Loving the Tetra too...but programming four sequences with four different...

Re: juno 6 and juno 106
The 106 is my main MIDI controller. That's nice to have. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if I didn't have MIDI. I've never played a 60 or 6, but this is the 2nd 106 I've owned. The 6 and 60 must be sweathog synths, because I've never understood the complaints that the 106 is thin. I definitely ...

I've been really intrigued with all the youtube videos I've seen of the OP-1 and, honestly, surprised it came in under $1000. Looks fun.

Re: Your thoughts on Prophet 08
I've only ever played the P08 once but...I have a Tetra and it's pretty much the same thing but with four voices and a few extra tricks (suboscillators and filter feedback). If you take those out of the equation...pretty much the same synth. It reminds me A LOT of my Oberheim Matrix-1000. Very clean...

Re: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (Like Darth Vad
I had a Moog Source that was my go-to instrument for everything. I wrote with it and my tracks were created from the ground-up with it. I set it up for a really big gig over two years ago and it was dead. The dreaded Crazy Source Syndrome. Eventually got it fixed but it was never the same. Did not s...
