Re: DSI MoPho
Did you ever considering contacting Moog and have them take a look under the hood? Or did you think "that's just the way they are" ... Oh no, I don't have any beef with Moog whatsoever! Amos offered to take it back to tweak it personally, but it would've cost me shipping it back and forth and havin...

Re: DSI MoPho
I had to sell my Little Phatty a couple of months ago ... but I really don't miss it so much, thanks to the Mopho. Wow, that's some high praise right there. Well, I had a bad LP too. The 2nd oscillator would not stay in tune, no matter how many times it had been callibrated and I became seriously f...

Re: DSI MoPho
Still with it, going on six months now. It's amazingly burly for what it is. I had a hard time "bonding" with it. When I upgraded MIDI controllers I began to enjoy it more. I miss the ease of programming I had with the Moogs but this synth stays in tune and has plenty of mojo too. For the most part ...

Re: Thoughts on the Alesis Ion
Loved my Ion, loved the immediacy of programming, etc. The quiet outputs and its overall size did it in for me. I downsized to a Micron. Love that sound engine. Maybe someday if I can find another Ion without the output issues I may upsize again.

Re: What instrument have you had the longest?
My E-Mu Vintage Keys Plus module. It's the first piece of "real" synth gear I bought back in 2003 when a bunch of Casios and Reason 1.0 was the extent of my studio.

Our Wurlitzer spinet piano, made in the 1930's and in desparate need of tuning as it's been probably 10 years since we tuned it.

That's the synth I'll be saving towards once we get our money right.

I'm with y'all. I don't have the space, the money or the inclination to have gear for the sake of having it. If I'm not using it then away it goes.Jack Spider wrote:Same as Stabbers and JS - if it doesn't get used, it gets sold.

Re: Time for mini laptops yet?
I considered it when I upgraded computers last year. I was running Reason and lesser VST's just fine on a P3 1GHz laptop with 512MB RAM. The only VST's I had that choked on it were the two ARturia synths I had. I figured the software would run fine on it, but I didn't want to try to program Reason o...

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
Last night I finally got around to watching a live Killers dealy I had taped on Fuse a couple of weeks ago. Brandon Flowers still uses the "state of the art" from 2003. MicroKorg & Nord Lead. Sounded fantastic to me. I guess whatever works works y'know? I have wanted a Nord Lead Rack for a long, lon...

Re: matrix 1000 black or white?
Pull up a video of "When You Sleep" and watch the drummer. He's triggering all the synth loops with a pad between his high tom and hi-hat. You can really tell on this song as he plays a 16th note fill and instead of doing the obvious thing at the beginning of the next measure (hitting the crash) he ...

Re: Why the alesis micron gets no respect ??
I've had both a Micron and an Ion. The problem with the Ion was at least mine had issues with the outputs and being really, really noisy. The programming interface was awesome though. As for the Micron...well, you have plenty of real time control too but you've got to set it up. What would be great ...

Or even guitars for that matter. I've recorded for so long with The Pod that I just can't do it any other way, even though I have a pretty awesome low wattage tube amp now. Or for mixing, which I do entirely in the box. I like software. I like hardware too. I like cereal and popcorn as well.

Re: Analog strings from something besides a "string machine
For strings both Alpha Juno and Matrix-1000 are go-to synths as is the Micron. I have a song on my MySpace page called "Consider Means To Look At Stars" that has a breakdown in the middle with layered Ion and Matrix-1000 strings and it sounds to me what a big heritage polysynth would sound like. Whe...

Re: hard vs soft synths
I guess really for me it's not a question of either or. I like having a variety of tools at my discretion and the laptop allows me achieve certain sounds in a way that my handful of hardware synths cannot. They augment each other. There's really no way I would've been able to conceive of my music wi...
