Re: Synths used by Whitesnake in '87?
I figured it was some combination of DX7 and high-priced analog layered through overdubs. "Still of the Night"'s strings sound sampled, like Emulator or something. They sound so real until they hit the higher note and then you can tell it's a stretched sample and not multi-sampled. I was thinking ab...

Re: Quality or Quantity?
good or average isn't what i mean. i mean 3 or 4 synths that are right for your music. That would be my problem. I've floundered around with a lot of cheaper synths trying to find the right analog poly. I loved the Juno 106 I had but it lost three VCA/VCF cards on me within a year and I couldn't ke...

Re: Quality or Quantity?
Generally I've owned about the same number and type of synthesizers since I started making electronic music four or five years ago. Usually one analog monosynth (first was an MFB Synth Lite, then a Realistic/Moog MG-1, now a Moog Source), an analog polysynth (a Matrix-1000, an Alpha Juno-1 and a num...

Re: Proteus VX rompler now free
I'd been thinking about picking up some sort of E-Mu controller if only to get this software packaged with it. Glad I waited for the free download. Pretty much all the sample set from my Vintage Keys Plus is in there. It's cool to have it all in the laptop now, plus some extra stuff. Awesome value f...

Re: Japanese Magazine ships with Analog Synth
That means it's mono. If you have a mono 1/8" then you won't have that problem. I had a Technosaurus Microcon and its output was like that.

Re: Japanese Magazine ships with Analog Synth
Matrixsynth had a post the other day for someone who had added MIDI to one of those, as well as a bunch of Youtube videos showing what the thing sounds like. http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2008/07 ... i-mod.html

Yesterday, audiomidi.com was blowing out B-stock Plugiators for $199 plus free shipping, and I snagged one.....anyone else here manage to get one? I think they sold out pretty quick. I checked early this morning after I saw your post. They are all gone. I would've pulled the trigger if one was left...

Synth spotting: The Who Rock Honors on VH1
I finally got around to watching The Who tribute on VH1 Rock Honors this weekend and was pleased to see a bit of vintage synth action. The dude playing keys for the Foo Fighters played the synth melody of "Bargain" on a Mark III ARP Odyssey (which I thought was a 3-octave Virus keyboard until I saw ...

He didn't like the evolver because he wanted a moog. Pretty much. Some time earlier this year there was some thread that I argued with Automatic Gainsay about something (can't remember exactly) but what I do remember from that argument is that he got me to agree with him that we base what we think ...

If you didn't like the evolver.... The Evolver and Prophet08 are two different synths. Not completely light years apart (I know they share parts) but different. Plus I desire different things from a monosynth than I do a lead synth. I had a lot of difficulty programming very simple, Moog-esque soun...

You know if you like it that much your really should just hang on to it. Yep! I concur. Meanwhile, I will say that I have started a savings fund to purchase my first real top-dollar analog poly. I will more than likely buy modern analog. The price of old-school knobby multi-oscillator per voice pol...

My MEK cost me $900 new in box on ebay. The last Source on ebay sold for over $1400. Even though I got a good deal, you could still sell the Source for more than a new LP or MEK would cost in a store, or way more than you could get either second hand. I've only seen a handful of Sources sell for mo...

I know, I know. But at the cost of six chips and a couple of hours for a tech to install them...you can have an Alpha Juno 1 for that price, which is what I opted to do.Yoozer wrote: Here you go: http://www.analoguerenaissance.com/D80017/

About twice a year I get that panicky feeling that my Source will go south and I feel like I ought to "upgrade" to a Little Phatty or Voyager or something. Just last year I had to put my beloved Juno-106 out to pasture because of those damned VCF/VCA chips. So I understand the fear. I'm not complete...
