This comes up for debate all the time. The Novation Bass Stations use digitally-controlled analog oscillators.

Crow? :D That's kin...

Anything with a shitload of FX. I wrote a real shoegazer sort of guitar thing in the spring and put Juno 106 on it high-passed with tons of reverb and delay.

I can't buy it unless someone buys my Oxygen 8 so I can have at least half of it before I hit our savings account. So...someone have pity on me! It's in the for sale section! I did email the guy this morning and told him I probably wouldn't have the money for it until the first of the month. I'd ema...

I saw an SQ-80 on the local Craigslist for $125 with memory cartridge and I've been trying furiously to pull the money together and won't be able to. Sigh. Anyone want me to midwife it for you?

I luv my Echo Park. It can be clean, dirty, self-oscillate, match tempos, etc. I bought mine new when they came out two years ago but now you can get them for $50-$75. An absolute bargain.

Spectrasonic's Atmosphere, Wavestation (hardware or software), Fizmo, Microwave XT...I guess what it appears we're all saying is a good wave-sequencing hardware or software synth will get you there. Or anything with lots of modulation sources/routes, such as the Oberheim Matrix series. Me, I like to...

The Source is fairly small (12"x26"x4") but certainly not as small as a MicroKorg or my Oxygen 8 controller. As much as I'd like to take the Moog I think I'll just take the laptop, a controller and same rack stuff. Check the controller in its box and original packing material and carry-on the laptop...

within the U.S., i don't worry about exactly fitting the carry-on maximums allowed - the major business carriers don't hassle customers about this though you do have to ensure that your carry-on will fit into the TSA x-ray machines at the terminal security I've flown quite a bit in the U.S. and I'v...

I got excited about it for a hot minute, until I realized that it would have to be chained to the laptop. Then I got unexcited real quick.

Air Travel With Synths

I've been invited to play on a session thing with some friends and family next month in Louisville. They will have drums, guitars and such galore. But I'm the only one of the bunch that's into vintage synths. So I thought I would try to bring my Moog Source, a 49-key controller & a laptop. The probl...

That's exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I'll give that a try tonight. Just adjusting polyphony and ditching the effects helped somewhat. This should help even more.

That's one thing I've done that certainly helps with MMV. I wasn't sure if going down to Win2K would be better or some other diagnostic that would help with efficiency. I should just use the NI stuff instead. It never bothers my laptop!

help improving Arturia VST performance

Recently I've begun to use my laptop live as a synth using legit copies of MiniMoog V and CS-80V. I love both of these synths but they overload CP usage something awful sometimes. I am wondering if anyone has any tips for optimizing the software and my laptop for more stable performance. I am using:...
