The SH-2 has two oscillators where the SH-1, SH-09 and SH-101 have only one. That means it's capable of a lot more sounds.80snostalgia wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 4:05 pmDoes the SH-101 and SH-2 both have the near enough same sounds? Forgive me I'm a newbie on Hardware Synths.

Do you have the service manual? Do you have an oscilloscope?

Re: Behringer's clone army
Ten years ago I was arguing it would be impossible to start making reissues of the old classics at reasonable prices. I was totally wrong. Behringer is a dream come true for people who want vintage synths but can't afford to buy one, refurbish it, add MIDI, etc. I've given up worrying about their et...

Re: Transplanting synthesizer parts
What you are asking for is what modular synthesizers are all about: freely exchange modules to your personal taste. Of course, you give up a lot of convenience with modulars which is why they fell out of favor for so long (most of the 80s and 90s).

Re: Musicianship and electronic music
Until I gave up hardware, I always had a workstation synth to use as both master keyboard and sequencer. With only a couple of exceptions, every other synth or sampler I owned was a keyboard-less module that could be played via MIDI. That's the most basic application of MIDI and I drank the Kool-Aid...

Re: Musicianship and electronic music
You might be surprised how many younger people interested in electronic music do not think of it in the same way as other kinds of music. Timbre and strict rhythm (esp. 4 on the floor kicks) is all important, melody and harmony are secondary if not totally unneccessary. To them, a keyboard is of zer...

Re: Roland D10 - Flute Sound?
That sound is a simple square wave lead. I'm sure the D10 has a sound that can do that, almost any synthesizer built since 1980 will have that sound in the presets somewhere. The D10 is a pretty ancient synth and rather dated soundwise (not to mention a 30 year old synth could have reliability issue...

Re: which is the best roland JX to get?
as for jx3p, would love one but they're more expensive, do they sound warmer or something? have a different filter? It's hype, much like Juno prices. It uses the same IR3109 filter chip as the Jupiter 6/8 and Juno 6/60. However, nobody thinks a Jupiter, Juno and JX3P sound very much alike. For some...

The Q chip powered a number of Ensoniq products, including the Mirage, ESQ-1/M, SQ-80 and their unsuccessful sampled piano.

Re: Hardware Odyssey (Korg /Behringer) or software Odyssei? (Korg /Gforce)
As a former ARP Odyssey owner, I think the LFO retrigger is one of the coolest things about the synth. The Behringer wins since Korg screwed it up by triggering on the wrong edge of the LFO waveform. Consider the sequencer and effects as a free bonus. If you are recording with hardware, there's no s...

Re: Where to plug an electric guitar into a KORG MS-10.
The synth is running at +/- 5V levels but an electrical guitar puts out less than +/- 1V, many are closer to 100-200 mV.
You'll see "external input" modules available in many modular systems to allow interfacing microphones, electric guitars, etc. These are nothing but preamps.
