Re: Roland synths price point back in the day
In around the mid 1980s the SH101 was £199 - the Casio CZ101 and Yamaha DX100 were £350, the Yamaha DX7 was £1200, the Ensoinq ESQ1 was about £1400 That's really bizarre, because in the USA the SH-101, CZ-101 and DX100 were all the same list price: $500. The DX7 was somewhere around $2000 but the E...

Re: yamaha sy35 save into the keyboard possible?
Pressing Store is always a good choice for saving things
BTW, if you look at p.38 of the Quick Start manual (not the Feature Reference) it explains the process.

Re: Getting A Synth To Whistle Like A Human Bean - Advice/Recommendations, Please.
Start with all oscillators off and a self-resonating filter with key tracking to 100%, than add portamento/glide to taste. That should sound like a theremin. Then experiment with modulating the filter with an A-D envelope to create a "chiff", so the pitch starts higher and rapidly drops. Also if you...

Re: Need Keyboard for Patching Roland JV1080
You've got some research ahead of you. Many modern MIDI controllers (with and without keys) can send patch change messages, sometimes including the bank LSB and MSB. The problem is how many patch change msgs can be stored. You will need to read lots of manuals online to see what each controller can ...

Re: Need Keyboard for Patching Roland JV1080
Do you have the patch memory documentation for the JV? You need to be able to select banks (each has 128 patches) and no two mfrs assign the bank numbers the same.

Re: Seller says “some static” with organ
Without sitting down and listening to it, hard to say. If it's constant regardless of the volume control setting, that's different than going up and down with the volume control or going up and down with the expression pedal. The simplest case is one or more bad capacitors but in older organs that c...

Re: SQ80 Drum Kits?
There are no "drum kits" in the sense of modern gear. Are you saying that SQ8L doesn't have the drum waves? They are the last five in the wave list. There's not many as I recall, a kick and a Simmons-ish waveform from the ESQ-1 waveROM (used in the patch K+SIMS) and five more sampled drums in the SQ...

Spitfire Releases $49 (or FREE) BBC Symphony Library
Spitfire has just released an entry level orchestral library with 35 instruments and 47 articualtions, for £49/£$49/€49. It is self contained, not a Kontakt library. Also apparently you can get it for free just by filling out a questionnaire!! Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=1v-...

Re: Participate in our Synthesizer Interface Study
I first encountered skeumorphism when I tried Reason 15 years ago. It was easy to use for me since it looked like hardware I was familiar with...the mixer looked like a Mackie, the smaller FX units looked like the Boss half-rack processors, the backside had CV connections, etc. Over the years I deci...

Re: Yamaha EX5 no sounds
Get the user manual here According to p.27, a system initialization will clear all data to the factory state EXCEPT the factory soundsets. For that you need the appropriate Demonstration Disk. This page still has active links to disk images. You will of course need a Windows based floppy drive to cr...

Re: Control Voltage Tutorial with actual waveforms
so did YOU go Digital or simply get out of music altogether ? My first synths were digital because I got them in the late 80s. Before that all I had was an old Lowrey organ. Until I got out of hardware altogether, a digital workstation was always my master keyboard, a primary sound source and until...

Re: VST hosts or Synths that host VSTs?
That's essentially what the Neko was, but with keys. The computer components are pretty obvious. There's a DVD drive underneath the wheels. Price started at $5500...in 2005!!!! That would have bought you a Triton, Motif and Fantom plus maybe some change left over. Sound On Sound Review from 2005 htt...
