The SH-32 has an arpeggiator that can be programmed with your own patterns, making it effectively a simple sequencer. This is how all the drum patterns are created. During the few months I owned mine I found programming arpeggios difficult (typical Roland interface confusion, no LCD so no grid), it'...

Re: Speaking of String Synths.....What kind of monster was t
In the Metallica doc Some Kind of Monster.....they interviewed a composer who scored a string arrangment on the BLACK ALBUM. In the DVD he plays some string keyboard for a few seconds, I jumped up screaming holy s**t that sounds wonderfully. Michael Kamen , who worked with Pink Floyd, Queen, Eric C...

PAiA's 9720 VCO has soft sync but not hard sync. I'm not sure how it's implemented.Bitexion wrote:No analog oscillator ever came with a softsync input. Only hardsync. Soft sync must be created using other tricks.

The Strummer was a arpeggiator-like box designed to emulate guitar strumming (doh). It was a commercial failure, never used one so I don't know how well it worked. Nowadays there are workstation arpeggiators that can do this sort of thing, but in the late 80s it was like science fiction. I can't rea...

Tyler2000 is correct, you can assign a note number (and MIDI channel!) to each pad but you cannot program note duration which is extremely short. It will work if you use patches with long decays and releases but that's about it. Velocity is fixed at 64 (pretty low) for unaccented notes, you can prog...

What the heck is futuristic anyway? When I was a kid we were told we'd all have nuclear reactors in our homes, personal helicopters and jet packs so we wouldn't need cars anymore, vacations on the moon and robotic servants. They forgot to predict water and air pollution, global warming, terrorism, W...

You need an infinite number of samples to capture every possible nuance of an instrument. True. On the other hand, you're assuming that the human ear is capable of distinguishing infinite nuances, which I'm fairly sure it's not. And you're assuming that the sound of the Clavinet will be reproduced ...

A sampled anything aint the same as the real thing, what else is new? Why? I mean, assuming you can sample something to perfect fidelity [or as perfect as the human ear can hear], what difference would it make? You need an infinite number of samples to capture every possible nuance of an instrument.

Absynth 4, $199. Check out the demo version. I would get this if you're already running mostly software.t260g wrote:should i even get a hardware synth if i can use software? i like hardware stuff, but software is easier for my setup and it doesn't cost as much

I no longer own any vintage gear but I never owned any that didn't work 100%. I certainly wouldn't buy one that didn't.

There's another R3/MicroKorg thread you should read: http://www.vintagesynth.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=33311 The MicroX is a Triton minus the sequencer and sampler stuffed into a tiny box. The keyboard is too short for some people to play (but you could play it from your V50 via MIDI). A good choic...
