Re: What synth should I buy for funk and prog?
Yes, when you use the synth musically you're not as anal about the filter response being EXACTLY the same as the original, that stuff gets lost in chords and effects anyway. As he says in the video, it captures the "essence" of the synths it's trying to imitate, and that's enough. It's extremely rar...

Re: What synth should I buy for funk and prog?
That video made me want a .com modular system more than a King Korg

Re: What classic synth would you like to see Korg mini-ize n
There wouldn't be much room for downsizing Buchla modules, they're too packed with buttons, patch points and knobs already. Anything smaller than Eurorack doesn't exist in the modular world either I think? http://buchla.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/LEM4-Snoopy-front-on-view-462x392.jpg Imagine dow...

Buchla is still in business making modular gear. So that would be Buchla then.

Even the micromodular is fun. If you don't mind patching on the computer of course, but then you wouldn't be considering the G1/G2 anyway.

Re: In the Synth Cave with Allesandro Cortini
Yeah the "great" idea Don Buchla had about making a portable FM synth you could take on the plane and play on, except that you have to lug along a CRT monitor aswell if you wanna edit it

Re: Looking for the best universal patch editor for old synt
There is a pretty extensive iPad editor/librarian for the Yamaha Motif XF too. Could control pretty much everything with finger sweeps, pretty neat stuff. Almost feels like we're in the future, except that there are no androids, no jetpacks, hoverboards or warp drives yet. I can definately see the p...

Re: Richard Tandy
We are in the far future already, and I'm pretty disappointed too. No flying hover cars, no hoverboards, no unison leotards, no androids, no warp drives and space exploration and all the ladies don't wear latex And all the newly released synths try to mimic the 70s classics as much as possible. I'm ...

In the Synth Cave with Allesandro Cortini
I just discovered this series on sonicstate. It's a studio tour in Cortini's (mainly synth work in Nine inch nails and lots of indie stuff), and mostly an amazing tour of his enormous Buchla 200/200e modular systems. His two Synthis also get some playtime. It's approximately 60 minutes in total. He ...

Re: So I took the C64 plunge
Just saying that it's REALLY difficult to learn how to program just the SID chip, you need to fully master assembly machine code and exploit the entire C64, not just focus on one single chip. Probably easier to get those sounds from a SID VST plugin. Or get a used SIDstation synth, even though they'...

Re: What synth should I buy for funk and prog?
The classic late-prog setup was a polyphonic or hammond + minimoog/cs-15 type dual vco synth on top. So you could play chord progressions while soloing or just hanging in the background as a blanket for the guitarist. Early 70s prog setups were usually just a hammond + a solo synth simply because or...
