Re: kawai sx-240 on ebay for lols
"It's old, so it must be expensive" is the way of thinking I suppose. Sort of like retro video games when media reports that some rare NES game was sold for $30,000, they put up a Super Mario Bros cartridge for $1000 just to try.

Re: New Elka Synthex?
You can get in the right area with just simple swept hardsync, but it still won't be RIGHT when you're as OCD as me. There are certain specialties that the Synthex oscillator has that makes this sound very difficult to replicate on other synths. The PWM "waveform" is one. It's actually a timbre crea...

Re: New Elka Synthex?
No, didn't know of it. Looks interesting but I'd have no idea if the sound is "right" since I've never had a Synthex to play on. Just know it from countless JM Jarre shows and albums. Of course he used it for much more than one sound, both HP filter LFO sweeps, all the strings on Rendez-vous and mor...

Re: New Elka Synthex?
I hope my local store will get one so that I can see it and play on it. I'll go straight for the laserharp preset, as that's THE one sound it's most known for, and the most difficult timbre to recreate on other synths due to it using some peculiar features of the Synthex, like osc1->osc2 pwm modulat...

Re: strings/pads
How do you KNOW this stuff, Micke? Are you in reality a super influential producer who worked with all the bands in the 80s? I remember another user called Mr Rich on the forum, he had owned pretty much every synth known to mankind and knew all kinds of strange inside info about recordings and bands...

Re: CS-50 60 owners
20 "cents" is so much that it will sound very out of tune to the human ear, you don't have to be a musician to hear that a note is flat or sharp. It will be very noticeable. You're moving far into the next note's frequency area.

And everyone should be wearing unicolored leotards by now. With pointy bits on them. Where's my jetpack?

If you don't shred, don't show up with a keytar to rehearsal at least.

Re: do any of you jam with other synth guys?
I hate playing with others. it makes me doubt my abilities to such an extent that I freeze and can't play to save my own life. I end up doing stupid filter sweeps while the guitarist plays endless cool riffs and looks at me expecting a Jon Lord Hammond solo. I freak out.

Re: New Elka Synthex?
Remember that this isn't a preorder. They're not able to make a single synth yet. They need to meet their crowdfunding goal first. Which is no guarantee at all.

Re: do any of you jam with other synth guys?
I haven't played with other people since 2007 when I left a band. Concerts were too horrifying for me.

Re: ARPIE - Cool Standalone Arpeggiator!
Curious about this statement:
"With an ARPIE kit you can build your own fully-featured arpeggiator for much less than the costs of a commercial hardware arpeggiator. "
What commercial hardware arps exists out there? I thought they were only software now.

It's kind of like comparing a Volvo Amazon and a Lamborghini Countach just because they're both vintage.
