We're not talking house-sized modular synth here, thank god, I'm not that insane :) Just a 6U rack-sized modular, cost about $3000 according to current dollar rates. Not really comparable since the money have very different values over here. Oh, I don't live in a bad apartment at all, I have 2 rooms...

Just comparing to Kelly Clarkson. She sounds like an Evanescence Lite only even more tailored.

Evanescence do good concerts, I've seen them a couple times. Let's not get sidetracked arguing about personal artist preferences, eh?

Isn't synth "shopping", what we call GAS for a fancier word, just as crazy? I mean, I should've put away money for future stuff, like buying a house, a car instead of renting an apartment. Yet all that goes out the window when I feasted my eyes on a modular system and just HAD to buy it.

"Get a multi or Micro".

It sounds like you think getting super rare vintage synths is as easy as dialling "rare vintage synths inc." in the yellow pages and order one.

The new Kelly Clarkson stuff sounds like it came through a money machine. It's like Evanescence only less sincere. Doesn't help to have a really good singer when the songs are dull and samey. I was watching Live Earth on and off all saturday. Rain poured down outside all day here, and I hate sunbath...

Same thing happens to me when I show my studio rig to friends. They just don't get it. To them, a keyboard is just something that makes a bleep sound. "You just push a button and you got techno records!" is a thing I've heard more than once. Certainly nothing to impress women with. It's very tough t...

Be sure to get it fully tuned aswell. Or you will face a massive dissappointment when you press several keys and it sounds like a dissonant mess instead of a C chord. I played a detuned CS60 in a store once, it was awful, couldn't play chords at all and the pitch would jump all over the place. Could...

Oh yeah, you can have up to 16 splits and zones. And funny thing, since each patch can store it's own sequence, you can have up to 16 different sequences going off along the keys. Maaad possibilities.

That's pretty cool :) Almost a shame that I have thousands of D-50 sounds already as sysex files.
But I'll punch in those charts anyway, it's more fun to make sounds than to just load up a new soundbank.

Hm now then to drag the D-50 out from the bottom of the closet.

Guess I'm lucky that I snagged a new one when I did.

I just saw the Duran Duran concert on the Live Earth stream, and Nick Rhodes, MISTER Jupiter-8 himself, was using an A6, but not a jupiter in sight.
Nice to see that not just hear about it.

Proof that the A6 is a good polysynth, is that Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran is using it, and there is no Jupiter-8 in sight. The stream is live at Live Earth now.
And Duran Duran are probably a major reason for the JP8's popularity, since so many of their greatest hits are laced in the jupiter.

I think the decision must be easy. DW8000 has a chorus. DW6000 has delay. Delays can be had with any simple digital delay stompbox or multifx unit. Korg chorus is not so easy to achieve. Thus go 8000.

When you've survived together as a band for 30 years, the last thing you want is to repeat your old albums and styles. So I think they're avoiding the old synths so they won't get into a pattern of repeating themselves.
