The CS80 and A6 have more similarities. Both have 2 filters, and you can easily imitate the cs80 structure of a highpass filter and lowpass in series. On the CS-80 you can insert an unfiltered sine wave after the filter, can do the same thing on A6, plus you can tap into the ringmod and bring that a...

Certainly not for cheap. I bought mine for about $3000 2 years ago, new from a store. Can't really tell, because I live in Norway, Europe with a totally different money market than US. To us, everything looks super cheap "over there". To compare against something, a new Minimoog Voyager goes at pret...

If you ever used a modular synth, you would understand why it's not possible. You need to route a separate control voltage (CV) to each oscillator to make the pitch track the keyboard. With just one CV input, you can only control a single oscillator (or unison mode?). The synth won't even register t...

It does have regular channel Aftertouch, though. Poly AT seems to be a thing of the past. I don't know of any board with this feature that isn't at least 15 years old. Too expensive to incorporate, I suppose. Implementing poly at on a MIDI keyboard would probably bring it past the price of cheap syn...

Erik Norlander is one of the greatest modern prog rockers now, I have several of his albums. Everyone knows prog rock and analog synths go hand in hand. I've seen him on stage with 2 andromedas and 2 Ions next to eachother. He plays the h**l out of his synths. He also demoed the Fusion on NAMM and m...

I think alesis had some serious analog buffs in their departments, and they looked at the current market in 2001 and saw that there were not a single pure analog polysynth out there that wasn't made 25 years ago. So they decided to make a brand new one. It was pretty much the only new analog polysyn...

Never heard of it, but looks like pretty standard modular features and setup. If you can afford it, and think Modular is the way to go, then why not? I warn you though, it is hard to think of "kerrraazzzeh" patches on a modular system when you're just used to normal keyboard synths. You tend to just...

Who hasn't heard of Curtis filter chips, or SEM chips etc? IC chips were crucial when designing polyphonic synths, there simply isn't room for 16 separate oscillator circuits + 2 filters per voice meaning 32 separate filters. The CS-80 does that, and is very unstable as a result of all the heat gene...

I found the clip (and several others) on youtube just now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3THE-9lB_8 I believe that is a ARP2600 without keyboard he's tweaking to make all that crazy noise (Around 6:30). The "keytar" keyboard is the ARP2600 keyboard, he just strapped it around his shoulders so he ca...

A common misconception is that IC's (integrated circuits) are digital just because they are chip sized. But IC chips are part of the analogue world electronics-wise. Everything is just shrunk down reaaaaaally well, as far as I remember they replicate the values and properties of capacitors, resistor...
