Re: iPhone / iTouch music applications suggestions

For fans of touchosc:

http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... build.html

basically midi output instead of OSC output, line-6 support, so no computer needed! sick!

edit: note they're using the Line 6 output with the ipad!

Re: Gear for techno/house/minimal ? (newbie)

Personally id say ditch the mc303 and get an inexpensive VA like a microkorg.. Maybe ditch the es1 as well, the em1 has great drum sounds

Re: hardware midinote to cc

definitely possible with either a midibox CORE module (the old PIC based solution), a completely homebrewed atmega approach, or an arduino.

Also you could try for now for fun to put your computer in the route and patch something together using midiox or puredata.

Re: Juno 106 - would you use it live?

I would get a hard case for it if I gigged with it. Protect your investment. Using a bag places a lot of weight on the exposed sliders and knobs. I know this, I weakened a few synths and bent a few knobs before switching to a hard case...

Re: Synths with Easter Eggs

I recently found out the Korg MonoPoly has another MG waveform if the dial is between two of the waveforms. Actually it quadruples the LFO speed, and it's all kinds of awesome  Theres the quad speed triangle, which is def the best of the bunch, and theres also double speed ramp up and down...

had pong. JJ removed it when he hit the program memory limitation so he could cram more real features in :) I think you can still get the old version with pong available just to be able to play pong on it tho :)

Re: Synths with Easter Eggs

My Yamaha PS-80 (toy keyboard) has a easter egg mode where the tone buttons become drum triggers and the voice is one that was otherwise unobtainable - http://www.eeggs.com/items/12364.html

Re: TB 303

D16 Phosycon into the new ableton live amp sim plugin = as 303 as I'll ever need. That's my decision after building and selling a x0xb0x.

That being said I might build a Oakley TM3030 just to have more knobs to twist next time im playing live ;)

Re: How to set up effects processing units

I gave up using outboard FX and stick to just dropping FX in ableton live. It frees me from following inspiration with "ok, now I just need another 9volt and some patch cables.. ah f**k it". Regarding reverb I usually just drop VST's as necessary on tracks but might start setting up FX returns for r...

Re: Tempo sync MicroKorg to Ableton or Reason?

With Live you need to go into your MIDI settings in Live and make sure that Sync is set to ON for the MIDI OUT device the MK is connected to, and in global settings you need to set the clock to external. Note that sometimes weird c**p happens with this combination. I've seen my MK freak out while re...

Re: Flipping gear

I recently went through my entire studio and sold all the little odds and ends I don't use. I ended up with enough $ to buy a mopho keyboard. (well, it will even out once I sell the remaining few bits). Whether the thing's worth $50 or $500 if you're not using it you should sell it. That's my opinio...

Re: 909 noisy when slaved to midi...

Sync the 909 and adjust the tempo. Does the noise frequency increase with tempo increase? When I made a DIY MIDI adapter for my DR-110 I found that the midi clock was leaking onto the audio outs, causing noise that'd actually change in pitch based on tempo (since higher tempo = faster clock = high p...

Re: Tama Techstar VS MPC

Do you need a master sequencer? The modern MPC's make great MIDI sequencers. If you're only using them as drum sample playback devices over MIDI then I'm sure you could find a cheaper alternative, even the roland SP's...

Re: What about the Roland S330?

Personally I'd recommend try finding effects /VSTs to accomplish the sound degradation you're looking for.. using old samplers is so cumbersome. Either you have to find an ancient SCSI drive or deal with floppy disks which are increasingly rare and hard to find. I had an S-550 back a long time ago a...
