Paul was selling CEM chips used in vintage synths, like 3340 and 3320 etc.. DSI uses a very different, latest generation of CEM "Voice Processors" (filter and VCA together) coming from Matrix1000 and Marion MSR-2 heritage, that Doug Curtis made a NEW batch of on his request. besides filter, DCOs in ...

i wouldnt go as far to generalize about ANY synth... some indeed have much better digital FILTERS than others, or better fidelity in ringmods/structures n other soundshaping capabilities, and finally not all have as good effect section which isnt unimportant in final result. all this considered, if ...

mini owes a helluva lot to its VCA, and its saturation. just like OBXa , P5 and some others.. VCA is in general an underestimated contributor to overall sound. just liestn to Studio Electroncis examples with their chip-based VCA, and the newer discrete (moogish?) VCA... suddenly your in moog land.. ...

505 sounds amazing. and strings are indeed different than on 330 i had in my studio for a few months. a frined who had both confirmed this too. tho the ensemble itself seems pretty much identical at least form this example. fwiw i played several roland n other string machines during yrs, and couldnt...

yeah i forgot to mention, the FX Section is TOP NOTCH. really really good - delay with HF rolloff ala BBD, chorus a la Juno with simple i, ii and i+ii settings, and reverb - all algos sound really convincing n smooth to me, and im a reverb nerd. i feel fx complement sounds in the right way. a HUGE s...

looking at new analogs, closest u will ever get to a polyphonic version of what u had in voyager is andromeda or (cost-prohibitive) omega/code. A6 "moog" style 24dB filter is quite nice, not to mention phenomenal multimode 12dB filter. and whole synth has that 70s vibe. in any case its a true VCO an...

restraining from usual fantasy section about reissued analogs, what id love to see is: a new Yamaha product in vein of RS7000, with 4 midi outputs, more memory, better PC integration. more DSP.. etc.. nothing impossible. tho im not sure if Yamaha sees money in this anymore.. live electronica gigs ar...

on the cheap side id recommend Alesis Wedge, Lexicon MPX (w or who MRC for ext control), and Ensoniq DP-4 middle ground: PCM-81 with dual FX card- absolutely fantastic for synths. reverb-into-delay is awesome for electronica leads, arpeggios ets.. Eventide H3000DS/E. it can be found for lil over a g...

There is no "replacement" for a JP6. 8) agreed. but poster, if i got him right, actually wants a replacement for SCI Multitrack, as he finds jp6 bottom end lacking. i cannot comment as i havent played multitrack, but staying in a curtis-based territory is good recommendation, and some of them like ...

I'm having the hardest time deciding whether I like the OB-X more than the Jupiter-8 for my favorite pads. i find that Jup8 is awesome for PWM type pads, high silky strings, and brighter pads where filter is doing some sweep work. however, for classic thick cholesterol pads, i feel OB-X is undisput...
