for ambient, if i had no hw synths id probably pick Access Snow first or second. i think Virus textures, tho limited in analog emul , work great for ambient/vast soundscapes. esp now with additon of granular and wavetable synthesis. not to be underestimaed that u can use its reverb/fx engine per par...

i havent touced neither MOTM or .COM in real life, only listened to tons of demos and album material using these systems. so with this grain of salt, i like to think MOTM is closer to moog. but, regardless of the emulation context, i prefer MOTM over COM, its somehow bigger and more musical. some fr...

ive been plannin to make a lil modular quasi-minimoog for a long time.. ditto on 1490 i too think MOTM has nailed the ladder sound. however, the triangle-core VCOs from Blacet sound nothing like minimoog or moog900 oscillators (which are saw core like ARP, and recently oakley/motm). Blacet sounds mo...

Re: Eventide - The kittens mittens?
Are they really the kittens mittens as far as FX goes? yes. outta this world mangling capabilities, and yet somehow everything sounds so high end. sound quality is brutal. of course, it can sound lofi and dirty if u want it to, as well. And is the Eclipse a good idea? Or is one of the older units s...

Aside from the polyphony and some changes in the mod section, it seems the 6 and 8 aren't all that different (aside from the filters) ... the programming section seems pretty much the same ... if anything, perhaps the 6 has the edge because with the vcos and lfos you can select multiple waveforms ....

i disagree all synths are equally capable of doing the dark, droney thing.. some are still slightly better than others. i second the androemda suggestion altough its a prices proposition. very warm filters, and basic sound is very organic with infintie posibilites in adding animation, modulation etc...

choice depends on the style of music and/or application i guess... pro one is punchy agressive, infinite posibilities of mangling with filter fm, cross mod etc.. it all sounds in yr face (check Upstairs At Erics Yazoo album). works great for sequences, arpeggiation, bass, analog drums etc. im not th...

Congrats D, hope u enjoy it. al i can add is, theyre different enough to justify having both, i mean 6 and 8. they both share, in my mind, one of most ergonomic panel/arhitecture designs .. its so easy and quick to get great sounds.. once u get to know it well, you barely need to use patch memory.. ...

yes Jupiter, PPG23 w WTB, but Fairlight and Prophet 5 too. breathy Fairlight II sound is all over this (fantastic) album. i suspect most of these toys were brought in by Trevor Horn.. (who knows maybe even some from his ex-Buggles collegues Downes and Zimmer?) ive listened to this record day n night...

Oh, I must have mixed the junos and jupiters for a moment there. True, the JP6 was roland's very last VCO synth. mks80 rev4 came after it with the same CEM3340 vcos in 84, and then in 85 they released mks80 rev5 with new IR3R03 Roland VCOs. that one was the last. cant say jup6 is among my absolute ...
