Re: 8 Bit Synths
Although I have only truely worked with fruityloops for composing stuff, I really didnt feel like it was for me. Each software sequencer has its own philosophy; and yours has to match with the designer's. If FL doesn't work for you, consider something else and do yourself a favor and download the d...

Re: Electro House Synth/Sound
Consider the following: be original and do not imitate these folks. do your own thing, tell your own story. The world's already full enough with "sidechain the h**l out of anything", don't add more misery if you can help it. Since this is not going to help, here's an easy trick to create nice rough ...

Re: Roland D20 and Reaper
In case of an USB controller, it finds the controller because it gets added to the list of MIDI devices. In case of an USB or MIDI I/O on the audio interface itself, it won't find anything; it'll just figure out that it has 1 MIDI in, 1 MIDI out and makes no assumptions otherwise. With a pad-based c...

Re: Roland keyboard
will the boxes I have all really work together ? Sharon Yes, and from what you've said you've connected everything correctly, so it should be in the settings. If you were given old gear, it means that someone else might've changed (as mentioned already) the settings. See if you can do a factory res...

Re: 8 Bit Synths
8-bit synths? If what you actually meant was "videogame sounds", that's different. Bits generally only are mentioned when you're dealing with a sampler.

Re: Roland D20 and Reaper
Give a bit more info; what isn't working? What have you used to connect the D20 to your computer. If it's a regular 1x1 USB MIDI interface, does the MIDI cable go from the MIDI out of the D20 to the MIDI in of the computer?

Re: Beginner's Synth?
Rather consider a Nord Lead 2; not only are you not going to run out of voices (monophonic is going to be a bit useless unless you already have a setup to record things with and the MK's 4 voices are rather anemic) - it also has dedicated knobs, and unlike a Juno-106, it's not going away for complet...

Re: MKS-50 Questions
What is the Hoover Sound and how do I get it? It's one of the factory presets. Check the attached image to reconstruct it; I never could get the Alpha editors to work on my Alpha Juno 1 :(. See http://www.synthmania.com/mks-50.htm - B86, "What the". Somebody offered me $150 for my MKS-50. I wasn't ...

Re: Who can identify these vintage analog synths
Polyphonic Moogs weren't that popular; rather count on it to do bass duties, and the brass/other polysynth sounds to be covered by Prophet or Jupiter 8 - or even something simpler than that. My JX3P can do those brass sounds easily.

Re: Kanye West - Paranoid: More electro plz?
I wish he'd use Auto-Tune less - the man can sing, and he should (though the argument against this was that without Auto-Tune, it wouldn't sound as ghostly and lonely).

Re: Any VSTI versions of these synths?
I dunno if it's that simple to say that the Korg M1 VSTI can emulate those other M1-based synths, as you would have to have the same ROM samples. The synthesis methods are different too from what I read. AI-synthesis was recycled to death, and you'll find a lot of the same waveforms in the later mo...

Re: New to Keyboards and bought a Roland D-50
If you have a bog-standard on-board soundcard, then that's indeed latency, even though Reason's generally doing its best to keep it low.
A stopgap solution is ASIO4ALL, but you're off better buying a decent soundcard.

Re: 100 Ways to Make Vintage Sounds on a Computer
His comment to me afterward was simply that both had the same "weight" to the sound, but you could just tell that the micron was making it's noise with numbers That's what you get when you're comparing these things in the same room; observer bias ;). Here's a nice challenge: record the sound of tha...
