I just sold my Yamaha DX21 (talk about "thin and digital") so no, I no longer have a keyboard besides the Casio SA-5 I got in kindergarten  A Juno 60 would be nice, but they are just too expensive. I could get a Juno 6 for $300 on craigslist but I'd really like to have patch memory :? That's s...

In light of the post above, I'm called to ask a semi-important question. Is it possible to get the same type(s) of polyphonic sound on a Roland Jupiter 8, Jup. 6, Juno 60, JX-8p, Oberheim OB-Xa, Xpander, Matrix 6/1000, Sequential Prophet 5/10, 600, T8, Korg Poly-61, DW-8000, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Chroma, C...

You could go for the Prophet 08, but you could also consider a first-generation Motif (with a DSP synth expansion board shoved in the back). The sounds generated by my friend's Motif 8 back in '03 still sound current, even with the ES having come and gone and the XS in its place.

Unfortunately, my copy of Herb's textbook description isn't within the reach of my arms. I left it in New York. Perhaps, I'll be able to procure it when I return there. (It's a 1985 revision of a college textbook called Synthesis. That version was revised during the highpoint when "digital oscillato...

If the Prophet 5 can be considered a hybrid synth, so can the Oberheim 4-Voice and the Synthi AKS. Who considers the Prophet 5 a hybrid? Herb Deutsch, the man without whom most of us wouldn't know the word "synthesizer" to begin with. And, here's Mark Vail's definition of analog/digital hybrid: any...

Wow! I didn't know Paul Wiffen was anything but a writer. He's a synthesist/programmer too?

I thought Harold F. wrote the whole thing on a Synclavier. Does the S II have a samper in it like the Fairlight? He could sample Jupiter sounds.

The JX3p doesn't have X-modulation or (supposedly) snappy envelopes, bu it does have 2 DCO's per voice, which I'll always find more seductive on an analog polysynth. If they'd opted to make the Juno synths with dual DCO's (or some internal pitch-shifting device), I'd find them more attractive.

Partly because it's posh. And, what's wrong with "middle-of-the-road," anyway? I grew up on it.

No, I've always enjoyed that intro and the sound effects throughout the body of the song. Do any of you know whether that was done with a Moog or an ARP?

By no small coincidence, one of my fav. Supremes singles is "Reflections."

Can any of you guess why?

And yet, he managed to create some nice melodic sounds on "Starship Trooper" and "Yours is No Disgrace" from The Yes Album. Are we to believe that he had someone standing next to him in the studio, twiddling the knobs while he played those parts?

I'd say to get a Nord Lead 2r, if you've already got a good MIDI controller. If you also wnt a vocoder, you might consider the microKORG, or the MS2000.
