Squarepusher's Yamaha Sampler

In the 1998 film, Modulations, Squarepusher is interviewed, weilding a cheap Yamaha sampler. I've researched it time and again, but I've never memorized it or written it down. Do any of you happen to know which one he was using in the late 90's? I'm sure he's used a few. :) And, is it real affordabl...

I hope you're joking. The CS-01 is even further cut-down than the ARP Axxe. What's it got that the CS-10 and 15 don't? I'd rather buy one of them, if I had to choose.

If it's economical sample/playback you're looking for - and would like the sound of the M1 - I'm gonna once again suggest the Korg 05r w module. Great M1-style sounds with double the polyphony and multitimbral parts. You can't make your own samples, but you can edit and change the sounds already ins...

If it's a cost-cutter you're after, I second the JX-8p. I'd have suggested that, anyway.

Another "anyway," the Matrix 6 and 1000 models are supposed to somewhat faithfully re-create the sound of OBXa brass.

Tenor Sax Soprano Sax Good choices! (those are the two that I play) Pretty cool, Panurged. Do you also play EWI synth like Mr. Brecker? I'd have said Alto sax also, but there's something in Bb instruments that the alto (and baritone) can't reproduce. A warmth that's almost akin to the texture of th...

Okay, I listed almost nothing but synths. Now, I'll try and list everything else. Keyboards: I've already mentioned the Yamaha electric grand, so I won't mention that again. Yamaha acoustic baby-grand Steinway concert grand Hammond B-3 (1st four drawbars(; Leslie 145/147 Fender Rhodes (pick your mod...

I'd probably get the P600, just to find out if I really like the sound. Later on, I'd either supplament it or replace it with a P5. Have any of you ever tried playing a P5 like a piano? Not practical, I know, but I've done it with six-voice instruments. If I did have a P5, I'd use it for one hand or...

The OSCar has digital oscillators. So does the EDP WAsp, but that synth is toated in the technical specs on VSE as sporting DCO's. There really aren't that many DCO-based monosynths, are there? By the time digitally-controlled analog oscillators became the rage, the synth world had gone essentially...

If you're willing to buy it seperately (I think that's how they were sold in the 80's), you might consider paying $100 - 200 dollars for it. And, you won't be sorry about the purchase, unless every other key doesn't work.

Yes, the JX is lush. And if you get it with the PG-800 programmer, it actually CAN be a good teaching tool. Anyway, that's how I learned how to tweak a VCF. I'd think that if you're looking for an educational FM instrument, the only one that ever existed was the Crumar GDS with all those programming...

I've never played a Poly-800 or an Alpha Juno, but I've used both the JX-8p and the DX7. I'd flip a coin. Each gives an independently pleasurable experience.

My pick include: Oberheim OB8 : If I had my pic of vintage analyg polysynths, this would likely fit the bill (who needs touch sensitivity, all the time?). Yamaha Motif : You pick your version, but they're all out of reach forme. Fairlight CMI : This synth's price needs no further mentioning. During ...
