Re: The Lost Art of Single Shot Samples!

If we can make attractive sounds with simple waveforms, using the remainder of a synth engine to impart a pleasing tone and playing response, there's no reason we can't do the same using small samples too. In terms of absolute realism, then large multisamples are obviously more realistic sounding (t...

You're welcome!

I agree, I think the plugin has been done really well, and feel the same about the subscription thing...

Note: for Logic users, I also converted all the individual patches in the archive to aupreset files, which you can grab from here: D50 Patches for Logic (LogicProHelp.com)

Re: Identify The Matrix 12 Preset

I don't there is a church organ patch in the M12 presets. Here is a listing: http://matrix-12.tripod.com/m12factory.htm And there is only one "organ" patch that comes with the M12V. So buying the M12 isn't going to give you this sound. But, it doesn't have to be an M12, as many synths can do church ...

Yes, that was another one that came to mind when listening to it...

Re: Recreating the D-50's "Soundtrack" patch

So the patch uses PWM, which the XV5080 lacks. Would this help in anyway? How to achieve PWM on Roland’s SuperJV / XP and XV series Yes, that's what I meant by "approximating" PWM. Unfortunately, you can only do that with one particular SAW wave as it's the only wave that has an inverse version, an...

Re: Roland D50 Plugin Goodies

And now the converter goes both ways - so you can grab the extra preset banks from the plugin and import them into your hardware, and/or use the plugin to edit and organise patches before dumping them back to your D50/550/VC-1...

Re: 1982 Voyetra 8 Awakens on the Bench...

Good work, Dan! It's amazing those things don't have cooling problems - when I think of some of the heat issues in large keyboard-size enclosures, stuffing a full polysynth into a 3U rack must be much worse! Haven't had any real experience with the Voyetra 8, I'm guessing the character is somewhere ...

Re: Recreating the D-50's "Soundtrack" patch

Had a quick look at this again tonight. I can broadly match the main core Soundtrack pulse wav on the XV, but the main challenge as that the D50 has pulse wave modulation on both saw and square waves, and the XV does not. You can *approximate* PWM in some small conditions (using one particular combi...

Re: Dead or Alive 80's delayed sound

Sounds to me more like 8th notes played, with a 16th note delay (so the delay fills in the 16ths to the 8th note part).

The second track is an arpeggiator set to 16ths.

Roland D50 Plugin Goodies

A few things for the D50 plugin - one of the main things people have been complaining the plugin is missing is sysex import. So I first converted all of CultOfD50 's archive of D50 syx files (600+ banks) into *.bin files that can be loaded into the plugin. You can get those here: CultofD50 Archive (...

Re: What synths do you think were used? ALYNE- OVER THE SKY

Probably mostly DX7, but who knows? There's certainly a lot of glassy digital stuff in there, and probably some analog pads, but it's difficult to tell as a lot of stuff is either buried or not characterful enough to pin it down to one specific synth. I get why you mention the PPG, but there other s...
