Re: DX7 or DX7II? Another comparison thread.
Aren't keyboards the same between the two? Even if the keybed is the same, the DX7II is a better "keyboard" as it outputs a higher range of velocities, and has better MIDI features. The DX7II keyboard is probably my favourite synth-action keyboard ever, and while it's also supposedly the same keybe...

Re: DX7 or DX7II? Another comparison thread.
DX7IID for the keyboard, better output quality, layering and stereo facilities, better MIDI, and for not being brown.

Re: Goldfrapp Synth Interview in MT
Nice interview! And nice shout out to Dan... Love me some 'frap! He's such a nice chap, Wil, but please tell him that a digital sound isn't 'steppey', it's just displayed like that because of the underlying sample storage - those steps are *not* any part of the sound, which is every bit as analog as...

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...
I was never a fan of the Jupiter 6 - I don't like it's sound character, or the way it looks, or the controls, it's always been a bit "meh" for me. *Some* of that is the "it's not an 8" thing, as I *do* love the JP8, but then I also really like other Roland synths like the JX8P/JX10... I certainly do...

Re: Recreating the D-50's "Soundtrack" patch
As I had some plugins to hand, I pulled up Zebra and started to knock up something. It was going ok until I remembered you can't use MSEG's in Zebra for the amp envelope, and as the envelopes have a certain multistage-type requirement, I abandoned it. So I pulled up the Wavestation instead, and was ...

Re: Recreating the D-50's "Soundtrack" patch
It's great to be able to play with the patch on the D50 (plugin) and solo out the various elements to hear them properly etc. The Soundtrack patch uses 2 tones, each with two partials. They are all very similar to each other, and are therefore based on the same core partial settings - you can flip b...

Re: Recreating the D-50's "Soundtrack" patch
Now the Roland D-50 plugin is here, and I can really investigate the various sources independently, it's time to dust off this little project again...

Re: Anyone willing to do a sample swap of a fav synth? esp J
Yep, I do this!
BTW I don't think the autosampler in Mainstage can do patch changing on the fly, that's a feature of the full version of AutoSampler (or Keymap Pro).

Re: Roland Studio Electronics - SE02
Tiny knobs, but at least it's tastefully designed and not a horrible toy-like laser red or green lightshow... It does look a nice analog package though, and if it sounds a little less Minimoog and a little more SE in character, that's a good thing imo... I just wish they'd not stick to the MIni's AD...

Re: Oberheim OB8 - Keeps Restarting
If there's weird things going on, it's probably time to send it in for a service - could be any number of issues (I've been watching a few SynthChaser vis on YouTube lately, he's overhauled a few OB's. There are some notorious failure points on the OB's...

Because these things are a looong way from proper studio monitors, but if you're fine with them, that's fine.vixen wrote:Why wouldn't they sound good on PC speakers?

Re: Your latest musical purchase
Why do people always line up the centre of the mod and pitch wheels? Do they actually like constant vibrato on every patch? The wheel isn't necessarily routed to lfo depth. A lot of filmic types use them for volume/expression, for instance. But looking a the state of that keyboard, where the mod is...
