Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
Just noticed the MT-32 has a Soundtrack patch as well. Similar, not exact. Unsurprisingly, the D-110 does too. Yes, they are just less good impressions of that patch on cheaper gear. Kind of like all the Roland stuff of that era have a "Fantasia"-type patch variant as well - it was just part of the...

Re: Thoughts on the Roland JD-XA?
Good post and I agree on many of the points. Roland, whoever convinced the top brass that 4-voice polyphony was a viable choice, please demote them back to bringing the cakes in and making the tea. Even the *first "proper" polyphonic analog synth* - the FIRST, back in the 70s (!), the Sequential Pro...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
I'm wondering if the "SOUNDNIGTH" patch comes from a JD800 patch, as I've seen reference to this elsewhere... It seem's "Holophon's Soundtrack" JD800 bank (which should also load into the 990) has a bunch of "Soundtrack"-derived patches as well (don't know whether this is JX Soundtrack, D50 Soundtra...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
I have a D-550, JD-990, XV-3080, and NI Massive (hey, it would be nice..), so if there's something I can provide that would help, give me a shout. (Although I'll be traveling a bit in June, so throw your requests out there and I'll reply if I can.) That's be great - when I get back into the weeds o...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
Thanks for the audio demo, really helpful! Nice patch, seems worthwhile to convert that over to the XV as use that as a starting point, or at least compare it to what I have. Tonally it seems right in the ballpark, although the envelopes are a bit softer in that patch compared to the D50 patch. But ...

Re: Reissues you'd like to see...
I would really, really, really love to see an authentic Oberheim OB re-issue. I am just not sold on the OB-6 being enough like the older ones. Musictrackjp's video has been the only one that I have seen where someone has made it sound like an older one (in that case an OB-8), but being that this th...

Re: Roland Boutique
Lovely synth, with accesss to all those cool Roland llibraries. Have you tried S550/ W30 era library with it? Is that even possible? I'm not sure it loads those libraries, and I no longer have a SCSI CD drive either - lent it to someone and never got it back. It loads the S760 era stuff I think, no...

Re: Roland Boutique
For me, I like the form factor as a fun plaything (not a "serious" instrument as such). The four voices is a bit of a slap in the face, but I expect that's either because the current custom Roland chip they use can't do more than that (there aren't very many recent Roland products using this modelli...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
It's been suggested than there is a JD-990 patch called "Soundnight 2" which is supposed to be a "very good copy" of the D-50 Soundtrack patch, though I can't verify it. I'm not sure what the original source for this patch was, but it wasn't the factory presets in the 990. Is there anyone with a 990...

Re: Reissues you'd like to see...
Someone just released an ST clone... can't recall name, but it's a straight hardware emulator of that and a bunch of other ancient PCs. I can't really see the point of this. if you want the hardware for some specific reason (eg, you want a dedicated Notator machine), you can buy ST's for peanuts (I...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
So, just rigged up my stuff to make sure the config works (have to run the Roland XV Editor, or SoundDiver, in a Snow Leopard VM on my MBP, and connect the various MIDI stuff through that, but with audio coming back to the MBP) - and tweaked a few parameters to open up the lower tone: https://dl.dro...

Re: D-50 Sound Track Patch on Super JV?
Go team! :) Funny thing: I checked the PWM in the D-10 and it has a value of 29 for all 4 partials. However, the PWM starts taking place only with values over 50 :D There may be other modulators in there, perhaps? - eg, PWM modulated by velocity, or an envelope or something (I haven't yet re-looked ...
