Re: Favorite use of the Synclavier?

Can anyone tell me what it cost back then to expand a Sync II to 768 MB sample RAM? And what would that memory look like, considering that, in those days, 128KB memory in home computers was already kind of a chip. I'm not sure about the SyncII, but for the next generation of Sync 3200/6400, 4MB ram...

Re: What 80s songs can the DX7 Tubular Bells be heard on?

The Naked Eyes interview from E&MM tells of the making of that album, and includes references to Fairlight, a small amount of Synclavier, Prophet 5, TR808, PPG Wave 2.2, Linndrum, Simmons kit, OBXa, Emulator, and Roland Vocoder Plus - mostly the Fairlight, PPG and Prophet.

Re: Top 10 or more Synth Sounds favorite

Favourites that spring to mind:- Go West early production (eg, We Close Our Eyes, synth sounds and arrangements are great) Scritti Politti (Dave Gamson's synths and arrangements are superb. He even makes DX7's sound good!) Propaganda, particularly "A Secret Wish" (Steve Lipson, Andy Richards synths ...

PPG Wave (multitracked, main synth riff), SH-101 (x2 bass)

Maybe some other stuff.

Re: New patches for Roland JX-8P !

No. Unequivocally a JX-8P. One of Trevor Horns favorites. "I still have my Roland JX-8P too - love that as well" " "I'm a factory presets guy - I hardly have the time now to work with a synthesiser, although back in the Dollar days I used to work all the kit then." Sure, he may well have had one at...

I think you'll find that was the Jupiter-8, not the JX8P...

Re: Sound Design Intro for App Synth Users

It's just analog-style subtractive synthesis - the range of sounds a subtractive instrument can produce depends on i's features, and how the various components are designed and built. Some are simple, where you don't get very far away from basic waveforms run through a low pass fitler, shaped by sim...

There is a mailing list here:

http://www.sdiy.info/w/Main_Page

I know people on this list have been building clones of great synths, and will help you out with ideas.

Re: What type of synthesis technique is best to do this?

Now if I have a sampled analog synth sound with a strong resonance, I don't think I would have the control of that resonance as I would using the original instrument, correct? Yes - if something is baked into the source, as in the case of source samples, all you can do is use the other things at yo...
