Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 08
M83 uses the P'08, that's a positive endorsement in my eyes.

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 08
A guy on the prophet forums programmed the original 40 prophet 5 presets on the P'08. Used static and mid scale most of them were very very close to the prophet 5 I had. I'd say most people would not be able to tell the difference. Once you start using the mod wheel or going more extreme on the scal...

Re: First time synth buyer
A big difference in capabilities but a small difference in price. Otherwise if a B is just too much an A will work fine.

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 08
The Prophet 600 does sound a lot like a prophet 5 with limitations, stepping, and is known to develop issues. Think of it as a poor mans prophet 5 rev3 at a great price. The Prophet '08 has more in common with an Oberheim Matrix 6/6r/10000 or the SCI MAX, six-track, etc. in that it utilizes the synt...

Re: First time synth buyer
Virus are great synths although I'd hold out for a B if you're going to get one. You mentioned the microkorg, you should consider its big brother the MS2000 which is a great first synth IMO. It has lots of knobs to help you learn synthesis where the microkorg has very few controls so programming is ...

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
To be honest I see very little irony in this thread and an attempt to use a hyped word (vintage) as some kind of justification to give value to VAs. I think this is absolutely unnecessary. I doubt you’ll find very many people, even on a vintage synth forum who can’t see value in VAs. They don’t nee...

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
often times I feel as if my AN1x sounds more analog than most actual analogs. #-o Wow, more analog than analog? I'm starting to feel like this whole thread is a big sarcast piss-take at my expense... Only, what is worse is that I don't think this is the case. #-o But I guess it depends on what anal...

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
Exactly, I don't think the intent of your original GS post was really the intent of this thread. The intent of this thread is a problem that needs to be delt with, with extreme prejudice.

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
I’m not surprised at all. I just think it is incredibly stupid. I don’t think newer VAs are any more inferior or have less character than older VAs. Especially considering that the Microkorg and Micron are still available new and basically unchanged as well as newer variations on the same product (m...

Re: "Vintage" VA synths
I guess what I have been trying to say was that VA's that arent exactly good at producing analog emulations seem to do things differently enough from analog that they can be used as a strong point if you get creative with it. You really just had this epiphany? Of course VA's cover different ...

Re: Formanta Polivoks
This was mine and I have to agrre about it being able to do really nice "mellow" analog sounds in addition to the aggro sounds it is usually associated with. It's a great sounding synth. One of the biggest reasosn I sold it in the first place was that I had no idea who would fix it if it developed p...

Re: The Moog Source reliability
The micromoog, from what I understand, what the synth that came after the minimoog and was meant to be an even more affordable way to get to the moog sound. I would speculate that due to the time period produced and the intent of the product that it might be designed the closest but it has a known f...
